Wiring my 69 shovel with mag

Wiring my kick only genny shovel. I wasn't planning on running a battery. I can if it's going to be the difference between kicking it until I'm dead or avoiding unnecessary breakdowns. Otherwise I'd like to keep it as simple as possible.

I'm running a DGV-5000 cycle electric (regulator included).

My question is do I need to run a capacitor?

Here's the diagram I am following...

It will run without the cap. But the lights don't flicker around an idle and things just seem to last better with a cap. A small UB1245 battery out of a computer UPS is even better.

DIY: Eliminating Motorcycle Battery & Adding a Capacitor

"This is one of the oldest mods in the book which now seems to have gone out of fashion due to increasing electrical dependence and is only seen done in survivalist builds...

      Requirements:

      4700uF 50V Capacitor."

      Thread: Battery eliminator problems

"After searching online for a while, I asked the cats at Cycle Electric when I spoke to them today,
they recommended a capacitor rating of 52,000uf.
Any voltage rating over 20v should work."

      one example:
General Electric 52000 UF 20 VDC Electrolytic Capacitor

Remember that capacitors have a shelf life - they go bad just sittin' on a shelf - aka; condenser, same thing.
sometimes ya get lucky...a built-in capacitor in my MityMax rect/reg unit is over 20 years, stil going...and if/when it gives up, I have another of those units still wrapped in it's 30 year old packaging.

If buildin' old school choppers was easy, anyone could do it... ain't nobody said it's gonna be easy...

Gooder decision it really sucks to kill the engine in traffic and not have lights.
