    Cowtown CB

So here is a build that I'm doing on a 1971 cb350 (yes cb350 and drag bike...) So I'm a long time hot rodder and drag racer and I haven't had a bike in 6 years(last one was a 69 sporty chopper) moving up to KC Mo from Texas, It was time, so scored this 71 survivor off market place and decided to turn it into a late 60's early 70s styled street strip drag bike.

The bike is being lowered 4.5" ,hardtailed, mh slick added, the engine will receive a full build: 11:1 big bore pistons, knifed crank custom web cam. custom titanium valves, xs360 studs, full porting and a bunch of tricks squeezing the most I can get out of the small cc engine. Im setting up two sets of mikuni carbs one set for Gas, and the other for methanol so we can tip 10% nitro in at the track. (Given my history with the stuff )

The first picks are a dump from date of purchase (one month ago) to date. Some are just mock up to get a feel for the bike as this is my first jap bike and then the inspiration for how it will progress. the street ablity is just enough to make it dotish so I can run around town and to work as work for a automotive performance manufacture out here. So here is my junk

Got the frame finish welded and painted up, fabbed up some hard tail bars from some old struts and started on engine turning some parts including the sprocket and the tach bracket. The slick should be hear any day and I finished the last lightning holes and hopefully it will warm up to spray the final coats. The onto the custom aluminum seat pan so no more amazon seat.

So I screwed up and the paint coat crackled. Now I'm striping down the frame again to bare metal. This is going to allow me the opportunity to re tig all the factory welds and dress out the frame. Also got my hands on a new M&H slick for the bike and couldn't resist the opportunity to mock it up its defiantly going to be cool with its low slung drag inspired look. Also I fabbed a set of rear sets 0Click image for larger version

frame is 100% striped and ready for a repaint. The decision between rewiring a vintage deitz marker light to turn it into a running brake light vs a round light I had in my stash either way. The license plate will be swing arm mounted vertically. and some parts piling up, plus i got rid of the tank stripe in favor of a much more rad idea. Click image for larger version

Made a bunch more progress on the bike got the frame painted. Then started on reassembly of the frame and drilled out the backing plate for the rear. mounted the slick and mocked up the bike to figure out rear fender and how much I am shortening the front forks and springs. Plus ill have to rework the rear fender mount to gain clearance. I ditched the decals on the tank as I will panel pinstripe the tins, for a more traditional look.. But I'm super stoked with the pre unit inspired drag bike look...

Been banging away on the bike with the the rear about 90% there, and having shortened the front forks to drop 3.75" getting the thing done fairly quick to start in on the engine build.

Made a ton of progress getting the bike to the point of a roller. The front end is 100% done i changed the head light as I was hating the café vibe. The wiring is done and I fabbed and turned a battery box and made up a kick stand and started in on the engine. Waiting on the custom 56 tooth sprocket and still thinking about running hillborn instead of carbs.
