    Another Cal-Products 4-Speed Tranny Build

Early case (64-down) been on the road for many a mile ..

From the understanding of the job is to gut it down and replace the gears & shafts with A-P shi ... stuff ..

Don't look to be in bad shape for used ...
    Not many war wounds ..

Not going full bore with a polish job on this one, will be flowing in the case to kick cover ..
    Going with a bead-blast finish ..
Take my 45 and outrun em all ..

    I hate rust ... Really I do .. !!

Throw-out bearing is rusted bad enough that it won't move. All bushings are way past max ware spec ...

Bout the only thing that is salvageable is the case, and it's going to need a new race ...
Already ran it through the jet cleaner Going to see how well the sonic does ..

The plan was to use all the parts out of the C-P and put em in a stock case ..
With what I'm seeing that plan just might go down the tubes ..

Condensation fucks up bikes stored in high humidity, a major reason most of my scoots are sheltered where dehumidifiers can protect them.

Someone needs to cast five speed cases with Big Fucking Ribs for the cool factor. BTW one way my mentor protected cast alloy finishes was to use a brass (never carbon steel, the particles contaminate alloy as TIG weldors know well) toothbrush with WD-40 (diesel or kerosene would do fine). It made Britbike cases look new and working the petroleum into the pores worked well.

Their bleeding just like rabbits ...

Would ya look at all that meat in the kick cover ..
Kinda a surprise that there are no war wounds on it ...

Cain't say the same for the lid, it's got a few wounds but does seems to be in good working condition ...

Time to hit the grind ....

Got a bit of meat to shave off ...

          Roughing-in is going well ...

Working my way around the kick cover .... Got the top pretty much where I want it ..
May need welding up a few low spots and fill some holes ..

But ... Kinda in a holding pattern at the moment cause I'm going to need the Baker lid to flow into the case ...
More weld will go down to make the lid flow into the case smoothy ...

That's neat but not listed on the website. Once again you have sources mere mortals don't!

My job to do is to install a Baker N1 drum ...

Good thing the lid had to be taken apart ... cause one of the shifter pawls was stuck in it's bore ..

Had a small problem with the install, the drum was binding from turning.
Some trimming on the lid casting freed it up so it could spin ...

Not good to see, but most likely won't hurt anything but for getting a new seal to go in ...

Owner said to do 1th & 3rd AP gears on this one ...
So there is no need for me to do the fork spacing until the new gears are installed ...
