Let's See those Chops with an....... Auxiliary Fuel Tank on the Sissy Bar

I am considering mounting an auxiliary or "back up" Fuel Tank mounted to a sissy
bar on one of my bikes.
when doing a Search I basically found Nothing.
Back in the 70's There was a Guy in My area named Fats Noriega that built allot of
choppers & some of His Chops would have an extra fuel tank on a sissy bar.
& I have seen them on the road on rare occasions.
a few years ago I was at a pretty famous bar that I used to hang out, called Walker's Place
in San Pedro, & There were 4 old school chops all with fuel tanks on the sissy bar (a rare sight!)
3 were Knuckleheads, & 1 Panhead They were arriving at the bar when I was pulling out, I was so pissed,
cause I wanted to check them out, But I had to split & didn't have time.

It would be great to see a thread with photos of choppers with a reserve or auxiliary tank on them.
(Old or new).
There was also a Guy that built a panhead chop in the last "Greasy Dozen" bike build off & He had an
auxiliary tank, But His was mounted down low, near the trans, & He installed an electric
fuel pump.

Sorry: No WAY I would ever run a tank like that on a street bike. I'm not even going to say why.................

i will,
a tank high up on the sissybar adds dead weight that will make the bike (more so on a long chop) very unstable and add the tendency for the 'pendulum' effect, to set in making recovery from cornering heavier & can easily throw you into a violent highside,
more so when half empty & the fuel is sloshing around un-baffled,

if you need more fuel & want a micro small gas tank, try to get an aux tank as low on the bike as you can,
if I were to do an aux tank i'd probably replace the oil tank with one & move the oil tank into the rear fender or in a tank on the front down tubes. all nice n low for ballance
I'm NOT saying it doesnt look good, it kinda does, but theres a reason ya don't often see it,

I get what you guys are saying about adding weight up high. If I add a 2nd tank, It's going
to be small, Like 1 Gallon, 1.25 gallon max.
I seen a bike on the cannonball run that had one mounted on the handlebars, That would
probably suck!

mounting the tank would be a cinch, and the creative part would be doing the plumbing.
I would maybe use a combination of hard stainless lines & hose.

Most tanks look a bit too big.. I wanted to mount one up to my sissy bar. Saw this Honda that had one about the right size:



I got a 0.8 gallon tank, seems about the right size for a tall sissy bar.

I was planning to get some foam like they use in aircraft tanks, to minimise fuel sloshing around.. and for connections, those quick release connectors, so when it's not in use, the extra fuel line can be removed..

Are you bent on plumbing it in? Have you considered a simple fuel tube... something a little less obtrusive but still lets you take a little extra fuel?
