Driving that train, high on cocaine
Casey Jones you better, watch your speed
Trouble ahead, trouble behind
And you know that notion just crossed my mind -
I got a new tube of glue .. Yippy
The Boys at Advance Auto gave me a open invoice to pay.
Once the bank gets this ordeal (5 to 7 days) straighten out I'll catch up with em ...
Mighty nice of them to do that ..
Now that the cases are glued & nailed together, more checks are in the works ..
Good as Gold here ..
Piston will be running up and down the bore straight as a string ...
In need of a few small parts and the cam chest will be locked, crocked and ready to rock !!
Oil pump has good finger spin ..

Looks like a 48 to me ...
Also see a few more parts that will be needed ..
1) Pushrod tube covers, if you reuse the EL covers the clips will be to short .. FL clips will be needed ..
2) Headbolts ... I would strongly suggest 12 point heads ... Makes life easier working with em.
3) Thick D-ring Pan cover bolts ..
4) Intake clamps ... I'd use "FNA Custom Cycle" Tite seal with the VT conversion rings ..
5) 3/8" Carb spacer from S&S
And valves and springs ..
Heads came with what VT loaded them with ... Nothing to write home about ..
They packed the springs for a max valve lift of .425".
The L-51 cam has a .533" valve lift ..
My pick for replacing the wind from the east stuff would be KPMI "Black Diamond" valves and their Lightweight Racing Spring kit which has a max valve lift at .600"
You could reuse the valves that came with the VT heads, but not the springs ...

Ok .... Ya talked me into it ..
(Didn't take much talking, did it ?) ..
First off is to get the pressure pot back on line ... Been awhile since it has seen any action ..
Did a little stripping with a air file ..
Do a nice enough job on the fin repair, might throw on a super nice, long lasting finish ... ??

Wasn't after steel wheels for the sand blaster, but it was all that Ace Hardware had in stock ...
Really wasn't wanting to use the sand blaster in the first place ... Tried to get the paint off of the jugs by bead blasting ...
But the paint was coming off super slow .... And down inside the fins was almost a no-go at all ..
Got a 50lb bag of sand ... Will drag the sand blaster out the back door and have at it ... (Tis a PITA doing it out in the Florida Hot Sun)
Hoping one bag will do both jugs .. ?? Soon to find out ..
That's one ... ^^
The other jug has no broken fins ...
Lets see if there is enough sand left in the pot to do it .. ??
(Ya known, I'd almost be willing to get bitch slapped instead of sand blasting out in the heat)
But, I'm halfway there now ...
(I know, quit my bitching and ....... )
Front jug is done, time for a snow cone !!
Still in need of a donor jug to rob some fins from...
Hadn't heard from my Buddy just yet ... ??
Cool ... He just called me ...
Said he has some 900 Sportie jugs ...Last edited by Dragstews; 05-14-2022, 11:13 PM.Take my 45 and outrun em all ..Comment
