At least if you're on a motor you can dry out.

Well Poo ....
Wanted to pull the Binder into the shop, stepped on the brakes and they went to the floor ... What the @#% ??
About three months ago I replaced the rotors, calipers, flexible brake lines ... Had good pedal at that point in time ..
Ok, time to rebuild the Master Cylinder ...
Dang, going to take a bit of doing to get life back into this puppy ...!!
Most likely it's the og M/C that came with the 1975 GM frame .. I did the body swap in 82 and I'm sure I never replaced it ..
Not going to rebuild it, probably the bore has rust in it and is the reason that it started singing Bob Dylan's song " I ain't going to work on Maggie's farm 'No-Mo' "
So I got a new one, not a remanufacture, but new as in never seen usage ...
Gutted it down and powder coated ...
Cool, should have brakes again ...
Looking at the booster, it sure looks sad from age .. Ok, going to take it apart, powder it and renew all the rubber ...
Got a GM rebuild kit on the way ...
(Was going to pull it off the firewall anyways in order to repaint the firewall) ...
Old truck is still sitting in the driveway ..
What's this got to do with Motorcycles ... ??
Not a dang thing .. !!Last edited by Dragstews; 06-05-2022 at 3:24 AM.

Same techniques as rebuilding an iron HD Wagner style master though.
Could be just sitting let the goo form round the rim of the rubber cup as happens on bikes (and is why I apply brakes on my garage sitters when I walk by them).

Dot 3 brake fluid is notorious for adsorbing water ...
Since I had the hood off the truck and in the shop working on it, poor truck was getting hit with the Florida elements for over a month ...
I think this was the contributing factor that caused the M/C to go South ...
(Being close to 50 years old, probably had a huge hand in it too)

On the Throwback Belt Guard ...
The fin ones can handle a belt up to 2 inches wide ..
Smoothie covers are a bit more narrow allowing only for a one and a half inch belt ..

Shall we put an order in .. ??

On a different note ..
Finally cleaned up a spot in the shop to get my truck in ...
Got a world of work to do on it ....
Thought I'd start at the ass-end ....
And work my way to the front ....
The polish 304 Stainless Steel T-Rex grille mesh will be mounted behind the grille bar ..
Gotta pull the front clip and make up hidden mounts to weld to the IH sheet metal with using rivnuts holding the mesh to the mounts ...
Wasn't planning on doing a grill mesh, but don't want any harm to occur to the alum radiator ...
Got way to much green into it for some kamikaze Blue-Jay to kill it ...Last edited by Dragstews; 06-10-2022 at 9:10 PM.

Wasn't a Griffin ...
Came from China .. 4 core, been in a box for a while, but do think it was under 3 bills ...
The two speed fan and controller was a bit up there ...
I made up L brackets and welded them onto a plate to cap the mounts on the radiator ...
Completely independent from the radiator ...
Still got to come up with a remote trans cooler and A/C condenser .. Both of those will be mounted under the truck bed ...
Not wanting to add any heat exchangers around the radiator due to the 400ci (406 now .030" over) SBC motors are hard to cool ..

Been a tad busy today with installing the Detroit Locker ...
The open diff check for backlash was at 0.005" which is the low spec .. Hoping I'll get the Locker back to that spec ...
Didn't want to rebuild the brakes, but it was a bit past the time to do so ...
And I was already there in the neighborhood ....
Should have it done by tomorrow afternoon ...
And will be back to working on scooters ...Last edited by Dragstews; 06-10-2022 at 6:24 PM.

Wow .....
This chore sure got nuts ... !!
Really thought the old drums could have been turned ...
Took them to O'Rilly's
They said that they never been turned before ... (Cool, might save a buck)
Went to pick them up and they said that now they are past max spec ... (What the @#%)
They wasn't in bad shape to begin with ...
(I think sumthin is fishy in Denmark, and it dang sure ain't the fish)
Oh well .... New is on it's way ...
Next "WTF" ...
Man is it super hard to get stuff these days .... !?!
There is 5 Auto Part stores in my town ..
NAPA, O'Rilly's, Carquest, Autozone and Advance Auto ....
Went to all of em for a can of Loctite "Klean & Prime" ... (Used it all up on the 48's crank)
Four of those stores looked at me like I had two heads ..
NAPA was the only store that knew what I was wanting, use to have it in stock, bought it from them before, but this time they was out of stock ..
Said they would have it the next day ... Cool
Next day came, went to pick it up and the salesman slides me a piece of paper ..
It was from their warehouse saying "We couldn't find it"
Alright .. Had to order it from Amazon ...
Now I could blow off using it on the carrier ring-gear bolts and go ahead with assembling the rear end..
But .... I really don't want those bolts to come loose .. Even though they get torqued to 105 ft pounds ..
Speaking of torque, shop next-door to me ..
Asked them about torqueing down the bolts on the gear .. How they did it ??
What they said blew me away ...
They used a impact gun .. !!
Not sure if they was pulling my leg or not .. ??
At that point in the conversation, I shut my pie hole ...
But I think I'll be doing it by the book ...
Assembly Specifications:
Cover Bolt Ft. Lbs. 20
Pinion Brg. Preload In. Lbs 20-25
Pinion Brg. Preload In. Lbs 10-15 Used
Ring Gear Backlash .005-.009
Ring Gear Bolt to case Ft. Lbs. 105
Side Brg. Caps Ft. Lbs. 60
May be a bit overkill .... ??
(I don't want any problems sticking their ugly heads up down the road)Last edited by Dragstews; 06-13-2022 at 11:08 AM.
