Diverticulitis? Did he say you might have inflammation or infection in your GI tract? It’s painful as hell from what I’ve seen, but treatable and manageable thankfully.
Diverticula are these pouches in your digestive tract, they’re actually common over the age of 40, when they’re present we call it diverticulosis, often people aren’t even aware of them
When these pouches get inflamed or infected, which causes a ton of pain and discomfort we call it diverticulitis
A CT of the abdomen/pelvis will reveal a lot and likely a lower GI study ie colonoscopy will tell the story. Sorry your year is off to a shit start man. As much as it sucks, if that is in fact what your MD suspects, a good way to alleviate symptoms currently is going to be a proper diet low in fat, red meats, processed meats, and fried foods. It’s all about allowing the tract to rest. Best of luck man.
*To add to that, I’m not a GI guy, cardiac is my specialty, but most of us in medicine know all body systems to an extent, or so I’d hope.
