hey, I'm collecting parts for a shovel build. I'm not too familiar with the mechanical or operational differences between the ratchet top and rotary top trannys. wondering about application, if either will work with a shovel, which might be better, and if either of them can run with either jockey or foot shift. thanks.

Either of them can be run on a shovel, just need to get the driveline alignment right. Some of the rotary top were meant for belt drive rear, so had a different offset from the ratchet top. Both have advantages and disadvantages. Not sure if anyone makes a jockey shift for the rotary top, but you could most likely fabricate something without too much trouble. -
ratchet tops seem to be all the rage these days, the cowpie (rotary) tops can have some fitment issues with certain oil tanks and the actual shifting mechanism is a plate not a drum which can be very tricky to dial in if it stops shifting wellComment
