Default Check out this sexy little air cleaner

This was an old S&S Super G cover that was damaged. Perfect for chopping. I put the little inside tit in my lathe and scribed a circle around the circumference. Notice the lettering isn't centered around the indent. Whatever, I like it.

I made the backing plate and milled a little slot for the bowl vent. Seeing the filter was gonna cover that area. I hope it works. Can't see why it won't.

The filter I found by size in a Fram filter catalog. Fits like a glove.

Boom! Here it is all finished up. My bro did the aluminum welding. He said it welded like shit, but he did an awesome job. It has a few imperfections, but it just adds character. Built not bought right?

Phares Cycle makes something very similar, but more open.

I'd definitely run an actual filter element like Cory is doing versus just that screen with the huge holes like the Phares unit. That screen won't stop much of anything from going straight into the carb.

That Phares unit is pretty slick, but you're right, It should have a filter. After putting every cent I own into a motor rebuild, I want/need a filter.

And if you ask me, mine is way cooler.

The only thing I don't like about it is that "S&S Cycle" is cut up. I'm not a huge fan of the tear drop style air cleaner, I think they're too bulky, but this looks much better than the original. Is it any thinner than the original?

Yup it's quite a bit thinner than the original. Probably an inch or so thinner. I dig that the lettering is cut into. Definitely know it's been modified and that's the best part👍

That mod would also work very nicely with a blank aftermarket housing.

Good idea running a filter. Sucking dust into that nice engine would be wetoddid.
