Honda Shadow VLX 600 Hardtail.

Hi.

I am wanting to turn my vlx600 into a hardtail possibly, seems esy enough (famous last words).

Wanted to know if anyone has any experience with this?

Particularly with legal shit. Or how about with overall comfort after long miles etc.

I like the clean look of a hard tail, the rear end on the vlx standard just doesn't do it for me. It's quite messy.

There is, quite literally, a plethora of info about this on the internet. Stroll on over to Shadow Riders and look there. Tons of people do this.

short version, replace your rear shock with a strut


the long version, build a new frame. The trouble you have will depend on your state and its laws.

Cutting and joining the swingarm is what I've seen the most of, similar to what you can do with this kit: http://shoptjbc.com.

Leave some bulk on the bottom and the swingarm bushing probably takes a beating like it wasn't intended to but it does clean things up a lot. Son's build show just how awesome this can look, thread link. He kind of has a before and after of the 'hardtail' steps in the first post.
