just an idea. That top bearing nut and cover your using looks very thick. Two weeks ago I did the neck bearings on my '91 softail. Instead of using the top nut your using the one on my softail was a flat tin bearing cover (top and bottom, the bottom has a bigger hole) and the adjusting nut was thinner if the nuts thread pitch is the same.

I tried that thinner top bearing nut and it’s the exact same installed height. The “thicker”’one really isn’t....it has a beveled edge that makes it appear so. I tore it down today for the 10th time and installed another set of Timken 7100 bearings just to be sure...reassembled and have same issue. Looks like I’m gonna have to remove the cups and machine them down to fit.

OK my loyal synchophants it's been MONTHS of inactivity and I've brought the project to My Motor Jesus's shop for completion. My vice grips are all stripped...my hammers are broken and sawzall blades are dull.....time for me to punt on this. My AV business is going bonkers and family priorities eat up a lot of time as well...when I do have free time I'd rather ride than break stuff I mean work on bikes.
He has made more progress in 2 days than I have in 2 years...so sad. His shop is very well equipped to handle anything needed, like this pogo seat issue with the Edlund frame......not a problem just keep assembling.
Stay tuned as the next post may be this thing actually running with my hero Motor Jesus doing temperature cycling with his laser thermometer thing.

Looking to put some bags on this thing. Was going the leather style but now thinking about the solid bubble bag style. I found this company on the inter web that makes repops that look decent. Anyone use these bags before??? Thanks...

Those bags are not current for your year model ....
'52 was still using leather ...
Not that it makes a Hill of Beans, just thought I'd throw that out there...

I have seen earlier rigid pans that have the bubble bags. They have a mount that goes OVER the rear fender that comes down for the bags to mount to. If i remember right the bracket bolts to the two large holes (sidecar bracket mount holes ) on the rear hardtail on both sides (axel casting plates)

Bags are on the way...nice looking repops from Samwell Supply http://www.samwelsupplies.com/part-g...ory_pathway-77
and sold through WWAG. $625 to my door.
Was close to pulling the trigger on the Royalite Bubblebags but decided on the leather. I'm painting the mounting plates black.

Good choice. I have 5 original royallights but there are hairline cracks in the lids and body. Gotta figure out a way to repair them...…..de rite way.

Going to have a Brand New 52 when ya get-er-done there, Buddy ...
Ya know I was thinking about the year 52 for the Mo-Co...
Lot of events happen for Harley that year ...
Like the last 45" two wheeler, the last EL, the birth of the foot shift, first year K-Model and also the last year of the top-end oil drain going thought the case and around the rear jug ...
Yes Sir ... 52 was a busy year for Harley ...
