Retired and my wife and I are suckling at the government teat. It's OK, it's mostly money that we paid in while we were working. Before, I was a parts guy at the Harley dealer.. the parts guy you actually wanted to talk to, didn't need to look everything up in a book etc. If you bought a kickstand spring from me for your Shovel or Softtail, I'd explain how to put it on to keep you from struggling with pliers and pry bars. I also used to sit in front a computer and design steel rule cutting dies, mostly for the packaging industry. Sold motorcycle parts at an indy shop for a long time. Put vinyl tops on cars. Did a short stint as a BSA wrench at a BSA dealer (obviously long ago.)

Oh ya, back in the early 70s I was a mechanic for Uncle Sam for 4 years as well.
Damn DB, you know how to re-invent yourself ! Time to get off that treadmill soon.

Thanks, I think I did ok for a kid who dropped out of High School to join Uncle Sam's School for Wayward Boys. ( aka US Army ) But as I tell my kids that was the early 70s and companies were looking for talent and enough discipline to make it to work on time and give a shit. Then when the CNC machines came out, the very devil incarnate I now realize, I was a young electrician and they sent me to school for computers. The rest is being in the right place at the right time.

Started out trying to be a rock star, but fortunately I discovered the glamorous live style of being an automotive mechanic.

I've had three chapters to my career:
    - Industrial electrician... Installs (receptacles to big machinery), machine mods, conduit and controls, etc. 12 yrs
    - Plant maintenance technician and EET... Machine repair, rebuilds, upgrades, robotics. 17 yrs
    - High voltage/Power Distribution tech... Maintain 2 transmission-fed substations, the downstream switchgear, and project management. 10 years

Side stuff includes hobbyist machinist, a crappy welder, a Shovelhead (30 yr anniv. coming up), and guitars/amps.

The Shovel has outlasted one wife and numerous girlfriends.
