    Default FXR Belt Drive

I was wondering if anyone is running a Closed Belt drive, and what you had to do to run it?

I have seen some from BDL and a few other places that make them.

What I know about the Primary (which really isnt much) Is that it drops oil on the chain and gets sucked back into the motor.

For a Kevlar belt drive it wouldnt need this.

Also Was looking at the Church of Choppers FXR build and really liked what they did to the Primary. Ive seen some other do this to their bikes (Sporty chain section) and I think it looks cool but dont know if its just a bolt on and start cutting.

The only difference would Be I am running Forwards on my 85 FXR so I wouldnt need the plate in the middle right?

The oil in the primary doesn't get sucked into the motor, it just sets in the primary case and gets slung around by the chain.
If you go with a closed belt primary, you will need to ventilate it somehow, by drilling holes in it , or by cutting away part of it like ChuCho did.
If you don't it will build up too much heat and you will eat belts

Did they use an FLT transmission to eliminate the oil tank?

They can suck the primary oil into the crank case: http://www.v-twinforum.com/forums/ha...crankcase.html

I don't know if this applies to all models

uh yeah...they can if a seal is out........but it is not designed to suck into the motor.

yes I agree...something has to be fucked up for this to happen..and it seems like overkill to go with an open primary to avoid fixing the problem

I suppose I'm not clear on what the problem is. I wasn't under the impression that the oil being sucked into the engine was actually occurring.
I thought Spade was saying it was his understanding of how the primary is designed to work. I don't think the actual reason for wanting to go to a belt primary was disclosed in the post. But I could be wrong?

On a side note , a buddy of mine is currently converting his FXR to a belt primary. He got a BDL setup. He's drilling vent holes all in his cover. He's going this route because he's tired of dealing with a leaking primary . Not leaking into the engine....but on the ground ....just like mine likes to do.. haha

No clue, Want an inner Primary belt to cut up the outter primary (Different then a 2-3 inch primary)

Was thinking about it more then going to do it but since I wrecked Saturday moneys going into parts

    6 inch straight risers (25 bucks) 4 inch H bars (15 bucks)

So wife's getting them for me tomorrow and Have to figure out how to straighten my forward control bracket.

So this is all the damage

Replacing this with a black sportster one I have laying around

Bent left side forward control, hit it with a hammer and didnt do shit, So going to either hit it with fire and hammer it out or throw it on a vice for a few days

Sucks, Was happy Sat Morning, Threw arm on shifter without having to pull primary (slipped right in) And was happy about it. When I shifted (motor off) it seemed to take a bit to bounce back into place should of taken that as a sign to check it more.

Went down the street, Everything was fine, Turned around stopped, worked. Opened it up going back down got to 3rd, started slowing down to turn bike sputtered, hit some gravel, tire caught and launched, hit the pavement at about 5-10 mph and that was it.

Picked it up, threw it into neutral and walked it home (20 feet from the house) Was happy cindy wasnt with me at the time.

    no clutch again.

Takeing it to someone who has more experience with bikes them me
