i recently did my first flake paint like that and it had the orange peel in it too! i said to myself "it'll be buried in the clear".....................nope! as soon as i started wet sanding, silver speckles started popping up through the candy coat. you have to sand the flake layer smooth as butter before shooting the candies. lesson learnedComment

You all were correct the spray max didn't quite bury the flake on top of the tank so I ordered another can. I will recoat it tomorrow to completely bury the flake and then wets and to remove the orange peel as required.
I did get the springer stem slugged, the springer painted, and the springer and wheels installed as of last night. Pretty happy with the look of the assembled bike.
Trying to decide on my handlebar setup tonight and start fabrication tomorrow. I'm thinking a set of simple t bars with the ends turned down might look nice. Any suggestions or pics of bar setups would be appreciated.Comment

This work? The neck is set at 45 degrees.
I can't get a side pic of the entire bike inside the garage it's too long so if that's what you want it will have to wait until I get the bars on and I can push it outside.Comment

As you know if you've done one just cut out the nasty triple backbone. It opens up tank options and the bike looks a lot better at the end of the day. It's a lot of work but it's worth it. I tried to keep the triple backbone the first time on this bike and used a huge GS450 tank. It looked good but was nothing like the mustang tank that's on it now.Comment

Finished everything up this weekend. Built a new wiring harness and am running a dyna electronic ignition, new dyna 3 ohm coils, post tonics regulator/rectifier, and new dyna plug wire. Starts up and runs good. Waiting on a chain and a new banjo bolt brake switch for the rear. Here's some crappy pics from the driveway.

Also built a break light license plate mount today out of 3/16 plate. I meant to take pics throughout but I forgot so once it is mounted after the paint is dry I'll post pics.Comment
