leds and neon string on 6volt system

I was wondering if anyone has successfully run leds on a 6 volt system. I found one 6 volt led bulb but it was ridiculously high.
I have some neon string I bought to run around the license plate. It comes with a transformer. My theory is see if I can find a step down transformer from 6volts or use a series of resisters to bring the voltage down. Is this doable? Any thoughts appreciated.
