Default Pipe too close to oil tank?

Got a question on a set of pipes i'm welding up. Is this cutting it too close to the oil tank? Personally, I think it will be fine but just wanted input from someone who may have ran a pipe close to it before. Thanks

Do you have any way of keeping track of your oil temps? Like one of those dipsticks with a thermometer built in?

No I don't...and don't really want to purchase one unless I were to happen to find it super cheap or something. On a tight budget. I really think it will be fine, considering it's just the end of the pipe......but wanting a second opinion.

Threw together a crude photochop to get an idea of exactly how I want the pipes to look. Here's what I came up with. Thoughts?

id like them a little more if they were slightly longer. where it cuts off in relationship to the oil tank seems a bit off. Not as long as the last bike posted above, but somewhere in between, like if the front pipe aligned with the rear edge of the ot.

Run an oil cooler if you're worried about temps

I agree. I usually just use my bare hand on the oil tank. I really don't know why. It's not like I'm going to stop riding if it's too hot to touch. Pretty much going to have to hear some horrible engine noises for that to happen.
I think there's enough clearance there. On my Ironhead, I have maybe 1 1/2 in. clearance between the tank and the rear exhaust port and the outside temp has to be in the 90's before my tank is too hot to touch after hours of highway riding.
And yes I run a cooler....

I would run some turn-out tips though if I were you.

My '92 had one before I started cutting it up, but to tell you the truth, I never paid any attention to it.

Anyway, OP, send me a PM if you want it. It's just taking up space in one of my parts bins.

If it were me I would take it for a blast and then feel how hot the end of the starter is. If it was getting hot then turn outs might be a good plan.

Well I ended up doing this..

Still somewhat concerned with the top one but I think it's gonna be fine.

I don't know man, I think you're gonna have trouble. It looks way forward from where you started. You sure don't want to heat the oil on an air cooled motor, and you'll have soot everywhere.

I'll just keep a check on it the first few miles of riding...i'm still working on them too..they may completely change. I'm never satisfied with shit. I'm experimenting with MUFFLERS now. Thinking from a performance aspect...so damn hard to make mufflers look worth a damn though...but the wheels are turning.
