Bet that Gen would be toast if I tried to Powder coat it ...
400 degrees is "Hot as a Fresh F*cked Fox ina Forrest Fire" .. !!
Powder coat insulates more than paint so best avoided for generators. Cerakote etc would be better (and withstands rifle bore cleaner) for a generator but baking it would still require teardown (or prepping an old housing then installing guts which is easy).

Brownells make some interesting gun paints. Aluma-Hyde II would be worth your experiment. I used it on some FXR switch cluster housings (flat black so not worth a pic). They offer a Parkerize color too. I've yet to dunk a scrap swatch in brake fluid but will post when I do.

I know Chop Cult has some gunsmiths lurking. What do you guys like for bangsticks that would be useful on an engine?

    ---
Re camshafts: What do ya think of an L51S or similar for my application?

For the generator combo let's do the DGV 5000 (if I use a horseshoe it will be custom or modded so no need for the low-voltage/tiny battery version) with the M cradle clearance spec if required for that year right side case.

Please Sharkhide as you go where appropriate including inside of any buried steel and Parkerized parts since that covers better on buried bits.

These or similar printer swabs are great for applying Sharkhide, anti-seize, lubes etc. I fucking love printer swabs and may even use one on a printer one day.

The L51 is a super nice grind, got a bit more going on with the numbers ..
Will be a little harder on gas mileage and bout 300/500 rpm higher in the power band than the L31, getting up on cam ..

Not a bad choice at all for the state of tune your motor will be in ...

As far as the finish on the Gen goes ...
I have not talked with the owner yet on what he wants to do with it .. ??

BUT, with all the bling that motor has going on, he'll most likely want me to break it down and send it out for plating ...

Very cool unmolested Pan from the early 60's ...

I'm guessing the front mount for the Jubilee horn came off of a jug bolt cause the early mounts was anchored to the relay boss ... ??

^^^^^^ That could be my old 55.....^^^^^^^^^

I was looking I think you were right that the horn bolted to the jug bolt............. That bike was a 62, A 62 was my favorite on all the pan years....... I put a lot of time in that bike restoring it...... But it was a bitch to start with the dual points..... It even had the stock aluminum rocker covers.....

I have never seen the floorboard extensions bolted on the front before. Cool idea.

That's the way I had them on the Dixie Queen also. It's like having forwards.

                          Well ...

                          Here we go again ...

In order to do the fancy on the Regulator end cover, I'll need to get a blank one from Cyc-Ele then do my magic and send it back to Cyc-Ele for them to load up the guts ...

The og Reg that was on the Gen has just become a spare ..

Be awhile but it will be looking like this one ..

May be building two of these custom Generators ...
One for the shiny ass 52 and another for a Super Custom Scooter down under ...

No fancy for Farmall ... His will be "Plain Jane" ....
The only person you have to please, is yourself ... 'All Good'

Do Cycle Electric guts fit Electric Franks castings? Could be fun for the nostalgia crowd as EF is where the end bell regulator idea came from.

BTW please blast the black coating off my regulator as the black inner/polished fin edges look is too modern for my tastes. An even blast finish on the whole regulator casting will blend better.

May be no need for that, I don't think I have ever seen an Electric Frank regulator that was bad.
