Greasy Dozen Garage Builder Collective 2015
Each year when we launch the Greasy Dozen application process we take a moment to explain what it is to the uninitiated.
The Greasy Dozen Builder Collective is all about getting more folks into “BUILT NOT BOUGHT MOTORCYCLE CULTURE”. Many like-minded companies got behind the idea and the Greasy Dozen Builder Collective was born.
THE GOAL: To inspire armchair Internet lurkers to build a bike and experience the gratification of “built not bought” themselves. It's all about showing that it doesn’t take $100k in tools and a 5000 square foot shop to build a cool Long Bike, Short Chop, or Café Racer.
Many generous sponsors have worked together to offer support with parts, swag, and more. In the last few years we have seen a couple dozen unique and well built cycles come to life from tiny garages and small shops all over the country.
The important thing to remember is that this is not a build-off but a group effort to promote BIULT NOT BOUGHT MOTORCYCLE CULTURE! There are 12 winners that will receive prizes and support for their bike build!

Kustom Research Greasy Dozen Entry
OK, so here’s the deal. I’d really like to be a part of the Greasy Dozen this year. I think this non-buildoff type of builder collective has a lot to offer the bike building community. It shows people that it’s actually possible to build anything you want on your own with very little resources. It’s a cool forum for new and old builders to follow along and learn new techniques and skills, and be inspired to either get involved in the movement or try something new. I’d like to be a part of the dozen this year and contribute some knowledge and inspiration to the bike building community out there. I have a few builds under my belt, all of which were completed with no outside help. I do everything, from fabrication, machining, upholstery and paint…nothing is outsourced. It’s all done within a two car garage. You can check out some of my work on my flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/kustomresearch/
I have a build I hope to finish up early next month(not my entry bike!), a 79 shovelhead...

So as far as my entry in the dozen, I have a problem, or I should say, we have a problem. The bike I’d like to use for the build is my girlfriend’s neglected 1992 883 sportster.

She wants a bike that would fit into the “Short Chop” category, and I want to build a bike that would fit into the “Café Racer” category. Here’s a pic of a past build to prove I can build a cafe too...

So this post shall serve as an entry, into either category, we would like Bear and those involved in the selection process to pick which direction they want to build to go. If we don’t get selected, then it will be up to us to decide (fight) on what gets built. So Bear, help us decide and get this project going! Pick us for the Greasy Dozen 2014, and help our build educate and inspire those who build their own.

Greasy Dozen Entry Update
I may be jumping the gun but thought I would go ahead with an update anyways... I have some big plans for this tank and this is the first step in many. This is my first attempt at chopping a tank in this manner so we will see how it goes. So far I am feeling confident that, at the least, it will hold gasoline.... I ordered an inexpensive bead roller for some super secret squirrel aerospace grade rib action. I will post more pics when the tool arrives. While I wait I will build up a frame fixture and see what trouble a swing arm frame can deliver..

Greasy Dozen Long Bike Entry
Hello Guy's...We would like to get in on the Greasy Dozen Builder bunch. We are a small two man shop out of the mid west in Alton Il. We do almost everything, paint, building, custom work, powder coating and polishing in house. We just started a Stretch softail for a daily rider for myself. We cut up a stock frame added 6up 2 in backbone and 34 degrees at the neck. 6 over in the 39mm front legs, nickle plated rims, and a narrowed flat bottom Wcc tank. 80ci evo and a 5 speed. Thank's Chop Cult, Old Bike Barn and all of the sponsor's. Attachment 56092Attachment 56093Attachment 56094Attachment 56095
