I recently split a 93 sporty frame and welded a haifley Bros tail section on. Then I cut out all the stamped neck gusset info and replaced it with my own. I noticed the down tube pulled left/right close to 1/16 at the weld so it got me wondering if it pulled the steering neck out of whack sideways, but I'm not sure how to properly check...

I took pictures and will try to upload earlier

You remember how far it was out all said and done? I'm figuring mine is fine, I'm just looking for a better home method of checking

My pan is the same thing. Neck chopped back in the late 60's and out at least 1/8 of an inch. You can see it when the bike is straight up on a lift. Still rides straight with no wobble. When I switched to a disk on the front I did find significant wear on one side of the axle but that has been after decades of use

I just stand the frame up on something flat and stick a long bar through the neck, stand back and look to see if its center on the frame. you can also take some triangular measurements for square while its there. The hardest part is picking the one spot on the bike you want to declare as "square" and go with it. you can chase numbers back and forth all over the frame for days.
