If I want to change from stock handle-bars to 9 inch apes will I have to change the cables and wires or will there be enough slack in the existing to do the job? Thanks, LTR

B4 you get flamed, bike, year, etc., then post in the appropriate forum category, this is a "how to" forum, in other words, you tell us how to install 9 inch apes on the cheap, and so on and so forth.

On my 82 Kawi 750, I put on 12 apes. I only had to buy a longer brake line. I re-routed the throttle and wiring without having to lengthen them.

As mentioned, allot of variables here.

But as a basic, 9" rise doesnt mean there is now only a 9" longer in length requirement.

What also comes into play is:

how wide is the bottom part that bolts in the risers

how wide are the two upper parts where the grips go

As a general rule, apes tend to be wider at the bottom and top that stockers

So you could have a 9" rise, but actually need 12" of actual new length of cable. wires, etc

I doubt your stock set up (wires/cables) will work on a set of niners

Remember also that you will need plenty of slack so you can fully turn the front end to the left and right as well. There should still be some slack when fully turned, with no tension in any of the cables
