The oil that gets pumped up to the rockers from the hard lines on the right of the motor has to come back down somehow. Some will fall back down inside the pushrod tubes, but not much.

Hardened steel is hard to cut!
In hindsight, leaving the bearing shell and cutting the sprocket might be a better solution.
You can see the Yamaha XS sprocket I plan to use. Its pretty hard to cut too. (34 tooth)
