Zen Of Neato

Originally created as place to post stories and images from my yearly motorcycle travels, it quickly transformed into an outlet for thoughts, images and ideas that focus on something bigger.  The Zen of Neato, or the ZON, is my cozy little corner of the web.  With a healthy lean towards the old stuff and a   dash of tangy Bonneville salt, there is always a fresh post waiting to be enjoyed.  Stop on by and take a look around - and don't forget to say hello.

A little bit about "Diesel" - born and raised in Detroit and (much like us all) keen on anything with a motor and wheels. With one of the big three in his backyard (literally) it did not take long for him to figure out a way to merge his love of art and machines into a good way for a gear head with a paint set to make a living.  Owned a truck or car from Henry's place in the last ten years?  Chances are Diesel had his hands in it - or rather on it shaping it's curves and proportions. Motorcycles and bikes were always there from the git go. A million years ago he experienced the "Loveless" at a rundown ex-porn theater downtown and became hooked on the ancient Milwaukee iron.  He averages about 30k miles a year in the saddle and has been bit HARD by the salt bug at Bonneville some years back.  When he's not tweaking his LSR bike "The BonnePan", he can be found conjuring up the Good Doctor who helps him purge out posts at a frightening frequency.  Stop by soon, butch is bleeding pretty bad and I'm almost out of ammo...

OilySouls 3

A lot of people have been asking because it's been kinds quiet around here, but it will happen. However, this year we are taking a MUCH different approach to the show. Since everybody and their Dad has a highly polished fancy motorcycle show with all kinds ultra-slick promotion, we are saying "fuck that" and creating something more organic, lo-fi and punk-rock. Basically a huge party for you and your motorcycle. Our recipe is still the same as it has always been - 25 invited bikes inside and whoever the hell else wants to show up on the outside. We will have some cool prizes, more than likely a vendor area and some ice cold beverages but not much else because we are stripping this fancy and now typical bike show formula thing down to maximize the party power.
August 22nd is the date - the location is a mind blower and we will release info about it soon. That's all you need to know for now....

Feeling Lucky, Feeling Honored

After 17 years in the Design Department at Ford Motor Company (a company which is, and will always be, very close to my heart) I have decided to make a move to another company which is as close to my heart, but perhaps a little closer to my soul - Harley-Davidson.  In early February I will be joining the Design Department at H-D as it's new Director. I cannot express in words the feelings I have for both leaving Ford and joining Harley-Davidson. It was not an easy decision to make and I never took it lightly. I have walked away from everything I built for myself and my team at Ford and I will miss it all I'm sure - especially every one of my friends in the PD department. Some of you are as close to me as siblings and I will forever be honored to call you my friends. To all of you, I'm sure we will meet again a little further down the road...

Mama Tried

Terry's ShuVL - redux

A couple of winters back when Dong and I shot one of the best ShuVL's on the planet for the cover of Greasy Kulture.  Terry's bike raised the bar about a hundred notches. Our photo skills struggled to do it justice, but in the end the feature turned out alright.

Oakland/SF - PT5 - 4Q

Always a highlight of a trip to the bay area is a visit to 4Q. Thanks to Max and Bud for the warm hospitality and open doors. The new place is perfect Max! That ride will be etched into my mind till times end.

It's Time.......

...to start this freight train we call Oily Souls back-up for 2015. Oily Souls 3 will happen, in Detroit.  I know a lot of you have been wondering what was gonna happen with me on German soil and the show thousands of miles away but things are about about to shift into gear....The date of the show is August 22nd.
