smokin' at the turn of the Century

back in '98-'99, when i was a (relatively) rich man, i would regularly smoke some really fine pipe tobacco. i would simply ring up the Dunhill Shop on Jermyn Street in St James, London and order 'sleeves' of hand blended mixtures. those dandy folks would air mail the package directly to my office in NYC. the blends 'Alfred's Own', 'No.73' and 'Baby's Bottom' were my faves. heady times them was. i even saved a few unopened tins as they keep well (13 years and counting!). i actually had the pleasure of visiting that lovely shop on a trip in 2000. sadly, these hand blended mixtures are no longer made and these remaining tins are very desirable. i decided to crack a tin of 'Alfred's Own' today. oh well. as a bonus, this particular mixture contains Cuban leaf (shhhh!) and is a great smoke. still have a handful of tins unopened. say, don't that 'M' look somewhat familiar? just sayin'
