Seems that when someone comes up with a good idea they never leave it alone… they always “improve it” into the ground… that’s the reason we are all into “vintage” (as much as I hate that word – thanks “media”) choppers…. Why fix it if it aint broke, right?
Well, when we first came up with the People’s Champ my biggest concern was that we might be “improving” the show at its detriment….. my other concern was that I wanted to make sure that the winner of the People’s Champ was up to snuff with the other bikes built for the show…. I have to say that last year’s People’s Champ far exceeded my expectations and I think added something rad to the show thanks to the amazing work of all the guys involved in the contest…. So, when we were asked by Mike and Grant to get on the hunt again we were stoked….
With the People’s Champ Part Deux our goal (once again) is to both let the public get involved in Born Free and to help showcase some of the builders out there that might have been overlooked otherwise…This year we had over 70 people looking to make it to the big dance… believe me I was stoked to have that many people interested in putting themselves out there…. But that also meant that I had a REALLY HARD decision to make. Here's some of the amazing entries we got….
We have to whittle the field down to the top 25 so we can turn all the decisions over to the PEOPLE to figure the rest out…..
Here are the top 24
I’d like to say we have a scientific process but we don’t….. 5 of us just sit around looking at the submissions and we argue until we narrow it down to 25….. well, that didn’t work out so well….. we have 24 that we agree on but that last spot…. Hey, there are no rules with Show Class Mag so I decided, why not take the last spot to the PEOPLE and get the party started early…. So, with the help of the Chop Cult, we have the top 24 roster chosen and we are gonna let the PEOPLE pick the 25th…. You can vote here on the CC and help us make up our minds… voting starts NOW and ends Friday at 12 midnight EST (Saturday morning for those who wanna split hairs)
Here’s the 5 person knife-fight….. now, get to voting…. Haha….
Chris Schulte - 6" over Hot Rod Shovel
Larry Henry - Single loop 93" Panhead
Mike Nielsen - Show stopping Pan
Rick Bray - Fuel-injected race inspired Shovel
Ryan Hagar - Denver's style Shovel

We had a lot of amazing entries…… We had to constantly tell ourselves that being part of Born-Free takes more than just a bitchin’ chopper…. Every single builder showcased at Born-Free takes it to the next level…. As such, we had to be on the lookout for bikes that we thought had the potential to blow minds….. hopefully we got it right…. Haha…..
