Show Class Magazine Presents The Double Diamond

Tom Fugle is a living legend.... that may sound a bit over-the-top but think about it.... Tom has been doing it since the beginning... Tom's been building choppers and blowing minds for longer than most of us have been alive... Tom's logged more miles on a bike than most of us will ever log in a car... shit, he's been immortalized in David Mann art... I've had the pleasure of talking with Tom a few times in person and he's as cool in person as you'd think he'd be... down to earth and just as into choppers as you'd imagine him to be...

When I saw that he was an invited builder for Born-Free 6 I was beyond stoked... I studied every update on his build like a stalker... then I saw his bike in person... I stared at it for what seemed like hours... so many amazing details... I'd never think of half the things he did to his bike let alone have the ability to make it happen in real life... Tom's bike - the Double Diamond - is a true work of art. This bike is the definition of what a chopper is... I'd like to personally thank Tom for letting us run his bike and Zac DOOM for lining it up and shooting it for the mag....Tim

I STARTED BUILDING THIS CHOPPER A FEW MONTHS BACK FOR THE BORN FREE 6 BIKE SHOW IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. I HAD MOST OF THE PARTS NEEDED TO BUILD THE BIKE. USED MY 48 PANHEAD MOTOR FROM MY BLUE CHOPPER "ONLY ONE LOVE" TRANSMISSION FROM MY 36 KNUCKLEHEAD, THE FRAME WAS PURCHASED OVER 40 YEARS AGO FROM A FRIEND NAMED SAM BARNES. THE OIL TANK IS BUILT INTO THE BACK FENDER. ALTHOUGH I MADE SOME CHANGES TO MEET MY PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONS, RAISED THE TRANSMISSION MOUNT 2 INCHES, THEN MODIFIED THE FRAME SO THERE WAS ENOUGH CLEARANCE TO RUN THE EXHAUST PIPES UNDER THE MOTOR AND TRANNY. THEN ENTIRE FRAME WAS REWORKED TO MY SATISFACTION.

THE TAIL LIGHT WAS FROM A MOVIE THEATER IN THE 1930'S USED IN THE AISLES FOR SEATING PEOPLE. THE PAINT WAS DONE USING MY OWN (IRIDESCENT MULTI-SPECTURAL) PAINT. I BOUGHT A STOCK 1920 HARLEY DAVIDSON JD FROM END IN 1969. EXTENDED IT 15" OVER STOCK. USED A 400 x 19" KNOBBY TIRE ON THE REAR, AND A 21" ON THE FRONT. I CUT THE SISSYBAR FROM A GAS PIPE ELBOW WITH A TORCH. BEING THE 1ST DIAMOND. THE SECOND DIAMOND IS FOR MY SUICIDE CLUTCH. HENCE THE NAME DOUBLE DIAMOND. I DID MANY OTHER SMALLER THINGS TO IT WHICH MAKES IT WHAT IT IS.

Photos don't even do this bike justice; I was lucky enough to stare at it for a long time in Brooklyn.

I saw it at the show, nice bike and all as a piece of artwork I suppose. As a chopper ,not very useful . I like to ride my bikes . Unless he's hiding a hidden gas tank somewhere it's just eye candy. Like a pair of fake tits , it looks good in a dress ,but suck when you think your getting the real thing.
