chain tensioners

So im in the middle of my 74 ironhead build and I was thinking about putting a skateboard wheel chain tensioner on.
How come I never see them on sportsters or harleys in general, always on triumphs??

When I tare down on mine, I'm going to add one

If I ever run one again, I think I'll try a shateboard wheel. The sprockets are noisy as hell. I like a rubbing block better.

I have a lowbrow tensioner that we just cut down and welded to a custom bracket..
no spring, but should work fine, just have to keep an eye on chain stretch.

Without the spring does it not defete the reason to have the tensioner

Not sure, haven't run it yet.
Some say it makes more noise than the wheel.
I don't have any clearance issues without it, its more to keep it inline and from smacking my bottom rail. Can't see how it would do any harm over good. I've seen people run them solid mounted (without spring) from the top without any problems.

They do make a little noise, but you never have to mess with your back wheel. Realy nice when your on the road for days and putin' on some long miles and you need to adjust your chain on the side of the road.
