Best ways to hide coils on XS650???

Does anyone have any good ideas about hiding the coils for an 1977 XS650 after a chop. I'm using a sporty peanut tank. I have points ignition so I have 2 coils. I'd like to hide them out of sight as much as possible. The best spot I can think of is underneath the tank but they'll still show. Any ideas would be helpful.

if you are running a fake oiltank for youre elektronics then you can make one just big enough so you can get those 2 coils in there too.

]I agree with Wally. Fake oil tank kind of blends the back of the bike, gives it more of a solid look. Perfect place for coils.

if you plan on mounting your coils in a fake oil tank then keep some kind of ventilation in mind.

build a coilholder and do under the seat...

maybe you can build a Elektroknicbox where you can hide all stuff (relais for the lighters batterie and so on)

Im not done with mine but i will be using the rear engine mount and a homemade bracket. Under the carbs and behind the engine is so busy I dont think anyone will notice. I will supply pics if anyone is really interested.

I put my coil under my carbs and it's worked out great, looks pretty good to.

my thought is, if you can't hit it the way you want to, show it off as much as you can. it's a part of the bike, y'know? i put bright yellow plug wires on mine.

didn't try to hide mine, it's a CHOP!!! Only thing I tried to hide was some wiring.

Thanks for all the ideas! I might try to mount them under the carbs but wherever I put em gotta make sure they don't get too hot.

hey windtunnel, someone else mentioned it, but coils can get hot... really hot. and you will want to keep them as cool as a possible. the hotter an electrical component gets, the crappier the performance becomes. so if you do stick em in a little box somewhere, make sure there is some sort of flow through ventilation. The heat they generate can prematurely kill them and be a bitch to diagnose too. when a coil goes bad, it will often work up until it reaches a certain temperature, then it may either work intermittently or not at all.
i like how someone said, if you cant hide it... show it off... which does not apply for girls with muffin tops to wear baby tees. Barf city.

yamaha puts the factory coils under the tank, and it doesnt seem to hurt them.

so don't use a fake oil tank. I myself am installing a cylindrical electronics box with domed end caps. Nothing to do with storing oil!!
