It is superb! This one is 12 years old, and the welds are all perfect. I've heard the newer ones( the last couple years) are not that well made.

alright, next up on the list is the aluminum oil tank! I cut all the panels and bungs today, and will be sending it out to a bud to have it welded up. This will be mounted to the lower front downtubes of the frame to get the weight forward and down.
It will be spring mounted against rubber cushions to keep it isolated.
I'm going to change the battery to one of those new lithium ones that are 8(!) lbs lighter and it will be mounted under the swingarm at the rear of the frame.

are you building the lipo battery or buying it?

It depends on what the cost difference is. If its only $20 to $30 difference I'll just buy it, but if its substantial I'll build it myself. Or I should say my buddy John will build it as he is an electronics wiz.

              shock height

Sweet bike and I've also read through your last sporty a couple times. Looking forward to following this while I plan my Evo sporty. How tall are those shocks? I'm looking at 13.5" or 14.25" progressive 412's

Thanks man, they're 14.25 with 1 3/8" lift blocks between the swingarm and the bottom shock mount.

Question; Aren't most sport bikes kinda top heavy for quicker turn in? If so why are you moving weight down and forward? I would think weight placed further back would help with traction also. Anyway I really like what you are doing.

                    Thanks!
In my experience lower center of gravity means better handling, think Eric Buell and his efforts at mass centralization. The weight bias of this bike is more towards the rear already so I'm moving weight forward to help equalize that distribution.

spent some time finetuning my shocks and front end a few days ago and I finally found the sweet spot. I took the bike riding today with Heathen and a couple other guys through some sweet mountain roads today. It was PERFECT.
I made a nice new aluminum muffler brace and I had to redo my brake caliper stay.

The two bobbins and bolts were showing signs of weakening so I replaced them with 3/8" bolts and a solid chunk of 1/2" aluminum.

I also added another chain run under the chain running off of the rear muffler brace bolt.

threw a little antique brass metallic on the fork sliders. I like it. Next up is the shock bodies.
