You could haul Oprah around on it all night long.
The brass, while softer than steel, is still extremely heavy and strong, especially 1/2". The only plausible weak point would be the fender holes rounding out. But you would definitely want to reinforce those anyway if you are planning on hauling heavy equipment. As far as the ground-rod clamps, they will hold. You could possibly switch out the copper bolts for some grade 8's, and drill a couple of shallow divots in the rod where they pinch and apply tension. And don't forget jam nuts and Loc-tite.

I think the real question is, could a P-pad support Oprah?

That is great I have been trying to come up with a cool idea for a sissy bar for a while now. Any pointers on how to mount one on a swing arm though?

Exact same way. Drill a hole in the side of the swingarm to put a bolt through to mount the heim joints. It will keep static with the wheel, so no worries of rubbing. There is a post on here about siisy bars and swingarms.

Thanks for all the good comments everyone.

Thats really cool. I like to see threads like this. I plan on doing something similar with a steel rod when my fender gets in.

Just ordered heim joints and 4 feet of Nval brass rod! looking forward to the experience. Went with the longer length (and thicker rod - 5/8" - to support a passenger) so i can strap more stuff to it if necessary. Again, thanks for the idea and wwrite up - will post pics when done.

Do those clamps you have set up holding the sissy bar on the fender hold tight enough to tie stuff to?

^^^^ Yes. I put blue loctite on the bolts the first time i cranked it down, and after about 700 miles, and a bunch of crap strapped to the bar/fender, they are still super tight. If the bar was taller, I would imagine it would still hold tight. But, that would also depend on how sturdy the bottom mount of the fender is.

Sounds pretty good Tito. I might give it a go when My fender comes in. I have been trying to decide between running a brass sissy bar or a steel one. I might go with the brass if it fits with the paint on my tins when I get em in.

Same idea, just stuck with steel instead of brass. I think the offset of color between the clamps and the steel will look sweet when I get it all painted up. I also welded tabs at the bottom and welded the top - but I was 100% inspired by this thread.

Also I have a 1918 WW1 bolo knife that is getting mounted in the middle. Stoked, Thanks a lot for the ideas.
