Make or buy a heatshield that stands off the pipe. It'll still be warm, but not near as bad as just heat wrap.

Here's a sweet unmolested one in my neck of the woods. Not mine and I have no idea who this is. Just thought I would share since you don't see em this nice too often for sale.

I second this ^^^ I want to redo my motor mounts as well, hate paying people to do work for me that I can do myself. Seems like a total pain in the ass though.

from another forum:
1. Elevate bike just enough to take the weight off the suspension front and rear.
2. Take 2 straight edges. I like to use square aluminum tubing it is relatively cheap and as long as it's eyeball straight it'll work. Use a couple of big C clamps or bungees and attach the straight edges to each side of the rear wheel. Note: sometimes blocking these from the bottom helps cause if you over clamp the rails you will distort them.
3. Make sure the front wheel is straight (torqueing down the triple clamp so the front end stays in place helps at this point) put your inclinometer on the rear disc and then the front disc. The manual says they should be the same within 2 degrees. If they are good then great if not then adjust the top link accordingly. Leveling the frame doesn't hurt but it really isn't needed. If the wheels are in vertical alignment then the frame has to match unless something seriously F'd up at the swingarm (I have seen it happen).
4. Using a ruler measure from the edge of the front tire to the inside of the straight edges on both sides if the front wheel. If it is not centered then loosen the lock nuts on the link and adjust until centered.
5. Check all the fasteners you loosened during the adjustment and torque the lock nuts on the links and that's it, your done, GO FOR A RIDE!

Was getting a nasty vibration on my '89 FXRS w/ front wheel and handlebars dancing like crazy at idle. I replaced the front motor mount and that cured the dancing wheel and bars, but I'm still getting a ton of vibration through the seat. Happens at 2,500 RPMs in any gear. Vibrates so bad that my balls fall asleep after a 15 min ride. Any ideas on what it could be? Top stabilizer link, maybe?

I have an FXLR. I cut my fender mounts off and I wanna put them back on. Does anyone know where I can find the dimensions for these frames. I know that Harley likes to guard their stuff pretty heavily but I really need a hand here.
Thanks

Easiest would be bolt some struts to the shock mount and use the holes in the strut as a jig to line up the fab piece you want to add back.

Has anyone ever had the clamp on the middle section of the Bassani Road Rager exhaust heat shield fail? Cuz mine did and it got swallowed by the 101 South gods.
Been trying to get a hold of Bassani but they dont return my calls or emails... so I am kind of expecting it not to be something they are willing to cover under a warranty.
Anyone know how to order just that middle section? Any good tricks instead of a clamp to make sure it doesnt happen again?
