Dad gave me this last year. Finally dug it out of the garage yesterday and started cleaning it up today. Missing a few nuts and bolts, and needing to be resealed. If I can find a decent gasket set I could have it on the road in a week or so.

Anyone have a cheap set of drag pipes they can sell me. Hit a giant pothole on the highway and snapped my front exhaust stud off and other damage to my thunder header. Going with some quick drags to give time for tabbing up a new rear pipe on the TH.

Dude.... You rock! I'll kick an email off tomorrow. In the meantime, My gear is packed. Forecast looks great- the rain won't freeze until Ohio! 30* in Detroit on Saturday. This is going to be ..... an experience.

I've made worst decisions, but not lately!

Amazon sent a battery/bars/risers/grips/oil change kit/carb kit/etc. to Florida. Game on.

I don’t have a lot of free time, so right now I’m planning on flying south on a Thursday night, giving the bike a solid once-over on Friday, and catching some sleep before hitting the road around 3am on Saturday. Looks like 18hrs, which should put me in my driveway at Midnight.

I stored the bike at a relative’s house in Tampa, and I’m thinking about ordering some parts to swap out before hitting the road. What would you consider necessary to check, replace, adjust, etc on a bike that has only had 300 miles put on it in the last 11 years?

Planning an oil change of all 3 fluids.
Battery is tattooed 2011, but the bike seemed to start just fine.
Brakes felt solid, but I only rode it around a block. They both work tho. I might bleed them.
Carb wouldn’t let the engine idle without the choke partially on (stock CV, pilot clogged?) but seemed to clear its throat by the time I was back from my test ride.
The cheap spoke wheels have me concerned about wheel bearings. I don’t want to put new bearings in wheels that I’m going to throw away, but maybe I should bring some bearings and check these ones out?
The forwards were put on but the hole in the primary is just open. I’ll bring a FLH inspection plate and gasket, but what about the inner primary? (I don’t know that it is not plugged, but the outer was not plugged, so I’m leery).

Also, aside from my standard tool roll with the “normal stuff” that I carry on my Panhead, are there any FXR specific tools that I should bring/buy? I’ve never owned an Evo or newer.

    Thanks all-Scott
I made it. Took 19 hours, 1285 miles. Serious storms in Atlanta and Cinci left me wet and cold most the day. TN is beautiful. Bike ran good for the most part. Ign is cutting out in the rain, but she cruised 80-85 all day. I like my new motorcycle.

Scooped this thing up out of Carson City Saturday. 900mi round trip from Vegas but worth it. 2 owner 87 FXR-SP, 9500 orig. miles, 96 S&S internals in stock cases, Mikuni, Super Trapp, PM brakes. My first foray into the FXR world, had plenty of Sporty's and Dynas. Need to make a handful of changes before I can ride it, I can't even reach the forward controls lol. I wanted to mention that I bought some bars from TC Bros and they had an issue. I called the dude up and he's straightening things out for me with awesome customer service (no pun intended). Good customer service is important to me, and I like to spread the word when its worth spreading.
