Only Softail and the Fat Bob had kick starts when Evo's came out. No FXR's did.

Indeed, fxr's came without kick starter. My after market kick starter cost me about 1000$ and, like I mentioned before, never worked properly. On the pics you can see that this heavy block comes out very far: not nice and uncomfortable when you stop and put your feet on the ground.

Default thats a cci aftermaket kicker kit for a 5 speed.

i had one on my last chop, wound up putting baker kicker gears in it cause the cheap chinese kicker gears bushings wollowed out. I wound up finding another kicker arm modding it, and putting it on backwards so it didn't stick out so far . . . you can get those kits for around 250 bucks from cci or jpcycles. easy to install.

Default heres how i did my last kicker kit.

sorry for the bad pic, i took an old kicker arm, cut the top off it and spun it 180 and welded it back on, the put the kicker arm on backwards to bring it in acouple inches closer in on the bike, deffinately more comfortable than havin that kicker arm stickin in your leg everytime you put your feet on the ground. i also ran baker kicker gears and cut the starter ear off the trans, she was a true kick only bike. never had a problem with it. plannin on doin my fxr real similar to my old primary.

That is the plan....when should the belt be changed?...the belt seem dry with some cracks on the "teeth" side...If the tire felt and look this way I would change it regardless of the tread

not sure...i run a chain. I'd probably change it though before youre in the middle of nowhere and find out that yesterday was the right time to change it.

    Default 86 fxr trans updating

I am wanting to update the old tappered shaft transmission in my 86 FXR. Was wondering if anyone on here has done this before and/or has any info on doing this, ex.. can i keep my trans case and just swap internals? whats the best year parts to look for? can i use my inner and outer primary cases? any info will help.

    Here you go JimmyJam

I looked at doing this awhile back but never did. You must replace the inner/outer primaries with 89' and up, you must also go to the newer style starter and clutch hub.

Ha! Pick it up at Kennedy's? I saw that down there a few weeks ago and dug it. Not sure I could stick with the paint long term but it has a certain charm.

Yes I had a hold on it for all most 2 mos. The ignition went out and they couldn't start it. They order the part from Harley and it took a while to get it in....My first thing was to re-do the paint but it is starting to grow on me....

Think I will go with Tracker bars...what do you think?

Correct. I know evo FXRs never did. I wasn't clear in my statement. By "early evo" I was referring to other models such as the softail and the 84 FXEF, which a friend of mine has.

My apologies for not being clear. I was mainly asking out of curiosity if some parts were interchangeable in order to adapt the kicker to the FXR trans.
