A (sort of) Indian dirt bike build

About a year ago, I picked up this haggered Indian dirt bike on a whim. I know, it looks like trash (and probably is), but at the moment it's almost "preserved". I say "preserved", because I'm new to restoring/fixing up old bikes. Also, a complete and expensive restoration is overkill for this thing, let's face it, it's a glorified mini bike, but i had never seen one so I bought it.

NOTHING on this bike is perfect, but since picking it up I've thrown on new paint and sourced every. single. nos part I needed (That was a pain). Im talking wiring harness, seat, headlight everythin. It's an Indian me-76, 70cc 6 speed 2 stroke street legal enduro type thing. Anyways, here's a "what i started with" pic with more to come. Cheers

I've got this ME125. This is when I bought it, it's nicer now.
Was geared for street use I guess. I put a bigger sprocket on rear.
Rather primitive by modern dirt bike standards.
I'm sure you've found this part seller:

Yep, I bought a NOS wiring harness from him, there's also D's cycle connection in texas. Nice bike!

        Engine

here's the motor all torn apart, it's currently getting rebuilt by a local mechanic.

        New parts
NOS cylinder, bore is 46.5mm, the "racing" version
Wiseco forged piston from a kx65 (fits perfectly and looks the same as the old)
        new crank and rod.

What is the mechanic doing that you can’t?

if I could I wouldn't have hired a mechanic, plus it's almost done and I'm gonna sell it. Parts are too hard to find for me to mess something up and need something like a new top end.

Man can I relate to this ... ^^

I ran across a old Honda Z-50 a while back ... It's all there (Minus the headlight) and in fairly good shape ..
Why I bought it was to use it at swap meets/drag racing pit areas so I wouldn't be walking my ass off ..

So far it's waiting for me to clean it up and get running ....

These Mini Bikes from Honda dates back to the late 60's ..
First made as a hardtail, then in 1972 they were being made with having rear suspension ...

Had a fairly long production run with the last year being 1999 ...

That's pretty dope! I suppose if push comes to shove there are those Chinese knock-off grom engines on eBay. It looks like it's in pretty good shape though. I actually bought a NOS fuji headlight probably from the 70s, I'll be posting pics of that and the seat next.

Jesse for a Boomer you have some good social media skills!

Pit bikes make an interesting topic. Someone should start a thread if there isn’t one already.

We used to use one of these to pull the Pro Drag bike back to the pits. And to fellowship around the pits when we had some off time.

Wow .... I hadn't done much searching for parts just yet ...
But, Holey Moley .... Seems that there are no problems with parts availability ..
Very popular model to have all parts needed for doing a complete restoration ...

Shoot, even a Plug & Play Hot-Rod motor can be had .. !!

Big jump in cc's from 49cc's to 125cc's plus another gear ..
The Z-50's had only a three speed tranny ...

Not that I'm going to do a motor swap .. Just get it running is my plan of attack ...
(That Bad-Boy motor could get me hurt .. Lol)

Might even chop it out ...

But I highly doubt it ..

It is interesting that that motor is made for the Honda but…

You’ld put that junk Chinese motor in…anything?
