    License plate ideas

I'm looking for some ideas for mounting a license plate that's unobtrusive. I'm not going to mount it off my sissy bar.

Well, if your state allows it, the side mount is about the cleanest setup

They come in either straight or curved you just need to figure out how to light it.

Tennessee allows the plate to ride sideways, but the 1st number goes at the top.

Not sure a sideways plate is allowed everywhere though.

Haha, yeah - I'm super tempted to bend it lengthwise around a rear frame leg and call it good...

Lots of states require it also to be lit.

I got stopped by a cop here in San Diego, California for having a vertical-mounted plate. He let me off with a warning, and my promise to go home and change it to horizontal, which I did.

He was cool though, didn't even hassle me for the fixed-blade on my hip.

I believe the California vehicle code says a plate must be "parallel" to the ground. They also have to be illuminated here.

I try to avoid giving the cops a legitimate reason to stop me. You don't want to give the cops any opportunity to start scrutinizing your bike if it has any code violations.

I’ve seen them wrapped around the back of a primary cover.

One thing that I had problem with was mounting it off the left side rear axle. It kept running up on my right heel when I was pushing it..just a thought

Something a little different. Here's the plate mounted to the belt guard on my Sportster, with the tag light up on the fender strut. In my state (Ohio) the only thing in the books about license plate mounting is under the illumination section, where it says the light has to make the plate legible from either 25 or 50 (I forget) feet directly behind the motorcycle in the dark. I moved the mount inboard so that the number is visible from straight back, even though the whole plate may not be. I've got the same setup on my Shovelhead except of course it's on the other side and it's a chain guard.
