Tin primary on early shovel
Hello,
I ran in to little of a problem. I have an inner tin primary 55 to 64. They told me i could cut this up to make it fit? It doenst align with my tranny cause i have a ratchet tranny with ears. Really wanted old tins on my genny..anybody has tips.

If you have a generator shovel motor, that inner primary should fit the motor. You will have to cut it out at the transmission to fit over the mainshaft bearing support. You do have a mainshaft bearing support, right?
The other alternative is to change the transmission to a kick start model, without the primary ears, and with the kickstart (short) mainshaft. And you will have to move the motor sprocket inboard a little (1/4" I think) so the primary chain will line up. That is done by simply changing the sprocket spacer on the motor.
Either approach will work.

In order to use a Tin Primary on your 79 FXE, you can get a special tin inner that will bolt up to the alt. motor case...
Or attain the Tin outer cover to be bolted down on the og alum. inner ...
