The Horse Backstreet Chopper mag
Ok, I'm not the kind to sit here and cup someone's nuts or rub their ass, but I have to comment on the improvement of The Horse Backstreet Chopper.
If you follow the story, The Horse is finally, once and for all, under their own ownership and oversight. You might have seen a sudden improvement over the last few issues.
The latest issue came the other day and I was blown away. Is it suddenly 25 pages thicker, or has the quality just gone up that much. Every bike in this issue was a work of art - not a show bike or a queen, a work of Craftsmanship, to include Slim's twisted genius.
The stories are well written, the coverage was pretty deep, and well illustrated, and hey, what the fuck, they even reviewed a New Stock Harley 883. WTF?
Even the chicks are getting better looking.
If they can keep this level of quality and focus the chopper rag world is going to get real interesting.
I just want to ad, that when you guys see and advertisement and then eventually buy from an advertiser let them know WHICH magazine you found them in - your favorite biker porn rag will appreciate that.

So you liked all that festoonery on that twisted sister thing (even had a remove before flight tag) and Englishmans version of an Oprah Winfrey episode? It has gotten so that I enjoy about half that magazine. Hammer does his usual rail on baggers, and if you dont ride a rigid 24 hours a day 7 days a week you dont understand. Hammer forgets probably half the shovels in that mag started out as baggers and were eventually chopped up, so baggers are just more fodder for future chops. If he was smart he would do a bagger desicration issue and chop up an EVO Elektra Glide or something, call it the DoucheBagger and make a big deal of ruining a perfectly good piece of plastic. Fab Kevin and the tech articles are great and the pics of actually built bikes are spot on. I enjoy looking at some of the pure ugly in the readers rides too.... at least GTP is honest about being all screwed up and having to ride a swingarm now.

All that commentary is going to be there whether the bikes suck and the transvestites are on the cover.
I can't say I agree with everything. It's sorta like seeing your buddies in a bar. Everyone has hangups and you get used to them. Even Snider said his bike didn't belong in The Horse. I even read Chamira's article about rider training.
But that's just filler, the bikes were what you would have seen before in about 4 issues, not all in ONE issue. Pretty good write ups on the events and good photos. Could have been better shots from Sweden. They sometimes try to get shots to take in the whole event and it just doesn't work. I would rather see 3 or 4 bikes and forgo the long shots.
GTP usually blathers on about god knows what, but he's funny, even if pointless.
But yeah, I think it is getting better. I mean, every month we have to hear Chris talk about the economy in Cycle Source.
{Just kidding Chris, I wouldn't know that if I didn't READ it}Last edited by revmike; 08-04-2010 at 9:35 AM. Reason: apologize

I thought alot of the Horse until I went to the SOW. Man what shit it was, and NO ONE was even helpful, "Hey Hammer my bro has a flat tire, any idea about who can fix it?" "Naw man this town dosn't even have straws."
What the hell!!! And so much for the Backstreet Chopper part of it, ha comical at some of the bikes they liked and made the top 10. Very Disappointed guy here, hope it changes for the better.

I get it, have for a couple years. It's definitely improved for sure.
The broads? Eh, they're ok. But plastic bitches is usually the last thing that catches my eye. Especially ones in cheap ass shoes. (yeah, shoes tell me alot about a chic, hahaha)
Anyhow, GTP's articles are my favorite and I always save them for last.

I have been reading the horse for years and i personnally that it started to suck when Englishman took over. GTP is a good read, but other than that everything looks the same. The last issue was better, but it has fallen... When cats get fat they get lazy. $70.00 for an event....what ever.

Yeah for me the mag has gone down hill......Ghetto trannys and fat strippers on the cover. I think i saw a bullet
hole on one chick's ass. Consant whinning about baggers and this four page add for Dee Snyder's new reality
show disguised as a bike feature. Any body remember the shit they used to give the Detroit Bros? A couple of issues ago a center spread on those guys...ugly bikes or railing against OCC then having adds for comemerative pocket knives for those dorks. I know magazines need to sell add space but have some morals.
Either way i am keeping my sub I would rather bitch about it here than do anyhting (joke)

i buy it religiously as soon as it comes out i dont even library style it in the store first...................but it sucks and hasnt gotten better, there has been more than one bike in atleast every issure were they dont even show both sides of it! common sense tells ya we wanna see both sides, or they will talk about how the guy made such and such a part or made something work by making this thing and than not even show a close up (or the whole side of the bike its on) i think they need to stop bitching and whining about everything, stop thinking we all care so much about what they have to say and supply us with more bikes and tech- and PICTURES
the broads are okay, i personally love strippers, fake boobs, tight asses, cheap shoes and all- no complaints except for maybe more pictures hahaaha

I'vebeen reading this mag since WAAAAYYYYY back in teh old iron horse days with Dave Snow as editor. Ralph did a good thing saving the magazine and it has had its ups and downs but over all it's been pretty good. Ralph is a jack ass on a world scale, but Englishman seems pretty cool and the latout and design of the mag has been improving ever since they hired Donni (gone) and now Jordan and Chimira. I've never subscribede and I doubt I will becaus ethe sub service has always sucked. Cycle Source is still my top rag and I try to get Back Street Heroes as often as possible, but the Horse is still a regular in my bathroom.
Later...

fact of the matter is I still read both THBSC and CS, also the occasional IH and greasy culture when I can get it. I figure we need to support these mags, cuz if they go away then what do you have? American Bagger, American Iron, Hot bike?? Not my thing. I spend too much time on the shitter to have only 2 mags get me thru the month.

I find the false bravado that passes as editorial voice in the Horse rather, how should I say, off-putting. If they had more stories about stealing beer from frat boys, I would so be there...

TOTALLY! My biggest gripe is exactly that
"He handmade these pipes out of meteorite iron extruded through Satans asshole!" *flip through the article to check out said cool pipes but doesnt find any photos* Whaaa the fuck?!
If youre going to talk about a part, at least have the intelligence to put a photo of the part in there. I dont need a close up of the off the shelve kicker pedal or headlight.
Also, Hammers Indian is pretty tits

I haven't bought THBC in a long time. With GK,Dice and the internet, there's so much out there that I'm more into. The editorials in it are a big turnoff, the bikes aren't my speed usually either. And it seems like they show non HD stuff to try and prove they're open minded, but it seems like they're really trying to convince themselves. It's a decent mag, just not my taste so much when I can get GK and Dice delivered right to my door.
