longer springer rocker studs

I have an old chopper extended springer and the bottom of the fork legs are much thicker than stock. it's using stock style rockers and studs but the studs are not long enough and the nuts are only holding on by three theads. also the front legs are almost an inch narrower than the back legs. does anyone know where i can get longer studs and what kind of steel the studs are made out of? thanks

Does the rocker stud go through the leg, ALL the way to the shoulder of the stud?????????? That's your problem............ It's the wrong stud for the way the leg is welded up.

yes the stud goes through the leg the previous owner pulled the front legs outward and then threw the nut on the stud which only had two on three threads, so the front legs under tension going away from each other.

this is basicaly what my stud looks like, i need to get some where the outer threaded part of the stud is longer. is there a machinest or company that makes them? i want to do it corectly and safe so i don't die on this piece of shit haha.

It sounds like it was not together right with the front legs splayed to fit the rockers...sounds like you need rockers with an offset between the rear and front leg pivots.

What are the diameter of the holes in the bottom of the legs for the rocker studs?

It would help to know what springer you have, or at least an idea of what it is, by sharing pics of the upper section showing trees, spring perches, if any offset in the trees, type of springs...maybe its homemade.

Measure between the legs at the upper attachment points, then again at the bottom and get the legs parallel and straight before trying to figure out what you need.

With those pics, can see how they brazed in the extended hexagonal front legs.
Check the measurements at the top for width to know the difference between the front and back legs.
you may not need offset rockers, but just a couple of spacers depending on the spacing.

As the legs are not original, there are a couple of options; one is to get new rocker studs machined to fit what you got, or,
#2, machine the bottom of the fork legs narrower to fit stock parts -which looks to be the better option as you can see from the photo you shared in post #4 above, the flat section is tapered, not square to the rocker...note gap behind the bottom part of the nut:


These style of rockers for new harley springers could be made to create an offset where the rear leg fits in the middle of the fork, but mount the front leg to one side of the front attachment point:

looks like you need to thin down the rear leg also. The nylock nut looks like it is not fully threaded on the rocker stud to lock with the nylock. Are the front legs solid or tubing?

im pretty sure the front legs are solid. i'm a little leary of thinning out the legs, the roads around here are lousy with deep pot holes. idealy i'd like to get longer studs but it seems to be really difficult to find a machinest that knows what he or she's doing. i already paid a guy a bunch of money for shitty work. might just have to hang this piece of crap on the wall.

It can be fixed, Take your time, Just sit back and look at it and work through the problems. Plus listen to the answers that people that give you....... If someone ask you to do something do it don't blow it off....... They are trying to help......

In the end it will be a great front end, much better than it gathering dust on a wall................
