    Stuck new oil pump

    Hello guys,

I have just bought a brand new oil pump from the dealer for my 89 sportster 883, 4 speed.

Unfortunately it doesn't rotate. Seems stuck due to the old lube (the box says it's from 2000).

I started disassembling but I can't remove the inner plate, I wouldn't want to ruin it. Any advices?

I tried wd-40 and little knocks on the table.

    Thank you so much!

    Ale

More solvent and try to turn it. I think you are right, the packaging lube has it stuck. Because of the flat spring between the plates, these pumps can feel extremely stiff, even when correctly assembled.

You are changing horses in the middle of the creek ...

There was a design change ... 77 to 90 was for the 4-speed Evo Sporties and when the 5-speed Sporties came on line in 91 the pump was changed ...

Not all that sure if 91-up pump will work on the 90 and back models ..
Might be best to do a bit of research ...
Take my 45 and outrun em all ..

I think he means the pump was made (or packaged) in 2000, not that it was for a '00 year model. And yes, those are not bolt-on swaps.

            You are right!

I found a brand new replacement as a closeout from a HD dealer made in the year 2000.
