11-16-2020 #21Has anyone installed the raked cups?
Installing them may involve rolling some of the chrome off to clearance, and there's a dot and a "T" (for top) you line up at the front.
Super basic. A thick piece of all thread with big washers on top of the timkens is nice to kind of preload them and square them, and then you just tap them into place. 15 minutes on a bare neck.

PS: Maybe consider a piece of nice looking welting around the dash to take up some of the gap?

So this is the current direction of the build. Headlight TBD, but trying to get another decent Unity like I had.
I am thinking I will do something to make the seat look like it belongs in here. Ogden Top & Trim near me has done a few car interiors for me so I want them to redo the pillion pad to more closely fit the width and contour of the fender. They will get the frame once I strip it back down.
The dash has me at the moment. First off I need to strip the gas tank to see what the heck the prior owner did and see if I can get the dash to fit a bit better on it.
I am also puzzled by the ignition switch. This is a new one that came in a box of parts, Is there a difference between years on these or do I need to shim up the front a bit?
I appreciate any input.

It is, why? And yes I know it is not period correct, but I like having a tach.

But since your building the bike to sell I hope the new owner will be into those kind of things......
Best of luck with your build and my nickle on molding the frame......... Don't waste your time the new owner won't care either way.,/.,.,.

I enjoy having a tach so that when I do things like switch drive gears I can know how fast I am going. That and I know when I can downshift without over-reving the motor. But ya, those are all carry-overs from my racing days and not needed.
OK, new topic, question on gas tanks. The one I have has no tabs for emblems and I believe someone here said it is a later shovel tank. Is the shape of this tank the same as a Pan tank? The reason I ask, I got the paint and Bondo off the tanks and the fit for the dash is still off.
I will post up a pic of what I mean in a bit.

My shovel has a pan dash, and it fits good. They'd have to be close.

PS: My bike is setup the same as yours, and nothing is that cattywhampus.
Is your base bent? Because that would explain all the problems you're having trying to line it all up.
There ARE shims beneath the base on mine.. But that's it. They align the dash base, which aligns everything else.
If nothing else, can you just bend the base till it does line up?

I got one tank stripped yesterday will do the other today. Then I can get some pics. The base is a new repo base, hopefully this is just operator error.

Here are a few pics to show what I am dealing with. This is an aftermarket dash and I am wondering if it is misformed or if the difference is in the tanks.
It looks like I could modify the contour at the front of the dash to match the tank if I had to. In addition in the middle section I can build out the tank a little to match as well, but damn I would not have thought it would be necessary. When these were on the bike originally they had a huge "apron" under the dash to hide the gaps.
Thoughts? I am trying to find an old original dash to check against what I have but have not found one yet.
