    Amen Savior plunger bushings

Hello. I have 2 sets of amen savior plunger bushings. One set is made of aluminum, and the other set is made of steel. Can anyone tell me why they’re are 2 types.

No idea why 2 styles, generally the actual bushings are Brass. I have some non Savior types, stock British ones including some disassembled, and can snap photos if you like if it helps. But sorry I cant answer your question better.

original Amen were aluminum, see ad below... you can see the rounded chamfered corner section. The other made of steel is an aftermarket copy... a few guys wee building them as replacements, including CycleOne.

The inner bronze bushings can be replaced with off-the-shelf items from your local bearing supplier or a place like McMaster Carr.

The aluminum one, threaded into the top or bottom steel nut, may end up corroded from road salt and rip the aluminum threads when disassembling...galling can also be an issue..had that happen once.
Use anti-seize when assembling. Less chance of damaged threads with the steel threads, but still use anti-seize when assembling.

Yes. Iv’e kinda had my eye out for an ironhead amen plunger frame and actually found one on Facebook market place. It came came with an extra plunger set, but it’s for a 3/4 axle. May put it on eBay. I also have a couple SB&F bikes. I like all vintage choppers.

you were looking for one (rare), found one (rare), and now want to sell it... because it has a 3/4" axle?
Swap wheel bearings. most Amen Saviors has a 20mm rear axle. A different company built the frames for HDs for Amen, so it may have a 3/4' axle.
You can fit any wheel, just swap bearings to fit the axle that fits the plunger body. May need to swap internal bearing spacer as well.

The Sportster model is listed in this close out ad:

I have the correct 5/8 plunger set for sportster. Definitely don’t want to sell that right now. I may sell the extra 3/4 set that came with it though.

nice frame. My suggestion; keep all the Savior stuff, spare parts is a good thing...even if you don't plan to keep that frame, sell extra Savior parts together with the frame...can't buy that stuff very easily anymore.

The Savior was introduced in 1974:

There's at least one Savior group on Fecesbook which could be a way to find it a good home.
