Softail vs Dyna Evo motors

Hey folks,
Have been working on a '98 FXD the past month or so, hopefully will be getting to chopping soon. Was wondering if it's possible to drop a Softail motor into a dyna frame without too much modification. Looking online the part numbers for the motor assembly and crank case assembly are different, but other online sources say they are interchangeable as long as the rubber mounts are added/removed as needed. If anyone has some experience I'd love your feedback!

The evo motors all mount the same, and apart from a few details, are functionally the same, '84 - '99. In the evo big twin line, the later the motor, the better.

I would think it has to do with the fittings on the oil pump and filter, yes.

Evo engine cases are the same so that shouldn't be a problem.

The transmissions however are not.

If you're just sliding in the engine, it should be no big deal. A Softail transmission however, is going to be a fair amount of drama.

You could go open belt drive on a early 4 speed (Kick only) with only a off set transmission mounting plate, available in many vendors, or mod an existing one one: Been there, done it
