Not a chopper, but something I am working on!

Been a little slow here lately. So I figured I’d post up a little project I am working on.

I built this “Softail” a few years ago. The aftermarket replacement dash always drove me nuts and the lights came free from the dash. I’ve gone through five dash mounted ignition switches due to Florida humidity corroding them. And the front speedo drive was always a little wonky.

I wanted to eliminate the dash and dash mounted ignition switch for something a little sleeker. Getting rid of the mechanical drive and speedo allowed me to run a electronic speedo and get rid of the wheel drive. Thus allowing me to run whatever wheel I wanted.

Our roads are angled down here to help water run off during tropical rains. A 21 inch wheel is a little wobbly due to that. And I wanted a little bit more of a tire. So a 19 inch mag wheel is going on.

I am going to make a abs plastic little cover to cover up between the tanks. Anyway, enjoy the pics and I’ll post more as I progress

I like it. I had issues in SC with those damn switches too, finally went with an electronic switch that whipped the problem. Judging from another recent thread, it seems like the electronic switches are shit these days tho.
I like an open dash with old style tanks, but I'd cover it too if I were running flat sides.

Made some quick fender spacers and centered the wheel. Brake is also spaced now

Nice looking softail. How did you go about switching to an electronic speedo from the mechanical one? My sporty has the mechanical speedo run off the front wheel and running an electronic would help me clean up my front end a little more.

When I built this “Softail” I used a newer style transmission. The case had a hole for the electronic pickup but I ran a mechanical speedo for simplicity of wiring. Although my trans is a six speed, it’s similar to the five speeds but I had to buy the appropriate pickup for that trans.

Made a little kydex cover for in between the tanks. I need to make another nicer one but this will do for a little
