    Will make it so ....

    Looks clamped to me ...

Opened up the hole that goes over the lip of the sprocket shaft case bearing support .030"

If indeed the motorplate sits flush on the motor I took off .042" to get to the same speck of what the motor had ...

Now to bolt it on the motor and see if it will sit where it needs to go ... ??

I'ma liking the fit to the motor case ....
Got a nice even crack ...

Trans mounting plate holes looks much better ....

      .... But ....

Going to need to shim the plate to the frame or elongate the holes in the motorplate ....
Think I'd do the tranny ...

Most likely the frame is at fault .... They was never meant to have a need for prefect alinement from motor to trans cause they was a chain drive .. Which allows for some room to be off ...

      __________________________________________________ _______

Had a chat with Carl Edlund about this ..
He said it's not the frame ...

      They are perfect ...
Ain't a biggie to cure, a few homemade shims between the frame and trans plate will suffice ...

Or make up your own thick trans plate ... That would "Heavy-Duty" that area of the drive train ..
(Most likely it's already freaken Heavy-Duty with the motorplate in play ... But what the hay !!)

Excellent! No stack height worries now. I'll deal with the gearbox shimming or plate but wanted to rest easy on the motor-gearbox plate.

That plate looks better installed than I expected.

Yes Sir, I totally agree ...

The reason I suggested using "seaking" outer cover was for keeping the look of old alive ...
That outer cover is a throw-back to the 65-68 FLH primary covers that Harley did back in the day, BUT with the ultra cool factor made in ..

Sill would be an open belt drive with a super cool belt guard ...
          (One of a kind)

You got a "Frankie" going together that retains the look of old that made Harley what it is today ...

Anywho .... Just my, off the wall, thoughts ..

As I'll running a narrow belt I prefer it be exposed for easy maintenance and less heat.

The enclosed Seaking cover could sell well in a version to fit Softail inner primaries since there are so many thousands of them (and that covers Shovel five speed upgrades using Softail trannies). FXST 94-06 and Dyna 91-05 use the same primary cover gasket and chain as the shaft center distance is the same so a cover that fits those would have a wide potential customer base (including me since while I wouldn't spend that much for a four speed the later box plus that style e-start compatible cover would be a sweet combo.

It would be kool to see those sell and I'd have use for one elsewhere.

These might give you some ideas ...
They are a bolt-on deal for the motorplate you have ...

I may not even need one depending on how I do the left mid control mount (which will bolt to a block added to the frame to offer some protection to the drivetrain).

With the gearbox located to the engine now is good as any to contemplate wheel sizes. 18" look good but don't have great tire availability so I'll mock up a 19 to see how that looks as it's worked out tidily for others. For grins if ya have a (random, ugly is fine) 19" spoked wheel with tire to hang off the rear frame the group can see how that looks.

I won't be quite ready to choose the final wheel and fork setups until I've a rideable mockup or an attack of inspiration. Tentative plan is bolt on a leftover 21"/16"/39mm combo left over from my 1994 FXLR to mock up the rear brake and spacers.

Who make the best current shouldered alloy rims? Excel or Borrani I've not fondled new ones in ages.

drag, seem to remember you or your customer had a bike (early sportster?) and I seem to remember it looked like the aluminum rims were chromed and not polished aluminum. If this was the case just wondering what the cost was to chrome ( yes I hear it now, horrible idea, LOL) the rim? Just curious.

Brown's did the chrome right before they closed ...
He sold that bike at Mecums in Vegas ... Got "BIG BUCKS" for it ... Think it went for $16,000

Old Borranis and Excels are fine but I'm curious about current manufacture rather than polishing out old rims.

For those wanting chrome but hating plating failures, stainless rims are popular in the Britbike world. I've not needed a set so no personal chance to explore new stainless yet.

I'll likely go with a ribbed stainless narrow-ish rear fender to escape painting one more delicate scratch-prone part.

On my old Rust Bucket ...
Going to fatten up the fenders a bit ...

No more rooster tails in the rain .... At least that's the idea behind all this work ...
(Might keep the road rocks off the paint too.)

Front fenders is also on the "FAT" list ...

                                Dang ... That's a lot of work ...!!

Now for the hard part of the job ...
