Default Panhead vs shovelhead gas tanks

Maybe a dumb question but I never really paid to much attention in person but are the panhead split tanks narrower/smaller than a set of 3.5 gallon shovel tanks or are they the same size wise?

They are the same size as far as gas goes. Not narrower at all, It's just the way they are dented to clear the heads that's different.

Optional on most years, standard on the '71 & '72 FX and the Low Riders (FXS) through '84 I think.
