    Shovelhead oil lines in jugs

So I went to the Indian Larry block party and noticed some shovels with what I think are oil lines coming out of the cylinders all placed in different locations and go to the bottom end or right back to the fuel pump. I’m unfamiliar with this and would like to learn! Click image for larger version

Those are top end oil return lines. Most often they are used on motors with big bore cylinders, where the cylinders do not have oil return passages like the factory H-D cylinders and S&S cylinders do. An advantage of using the external oil return lines is that the return oil does not pass through the head gasket, where there is the possibility that return oil will get into the combustion chamber because of a failed gasket.

On a quick look, those motors do appear to be big bore

That's when outside oil lines are mostly seen ...

With Big Bores the wall thickness is lacking to support internal drains ...
Take my 45 and outrun em all ..

My bikes running external drains as well. 3-13/16 bore. My set up is a little more complicated than the standard big bore set up. I'm running axtell shovelution cylinders. Shovel bottom bolt patter and evo top, the evo head drains wouldn't match up even if it was internaly drained
