    Default Gas Tank Location

Are there any rules of thumb for the placement of the gas tank beside making sure the handlebars clear the gas tank and petcock can operate?

The only rule I think is that gravity has to bring gas down...run a fuel pump or vacuum petcock, that rule goes away. Mount it under the engine, on the rear fender, whatever

A vacuum petcock doesn't create fuel pressure or flow, it only uses engine vacuum to allow fuel to flow from the tank through the petcock and to the carburetor(s).
