    Default Sturgis?

I haven't been in over 20 years. Wife and I are planning to attend this year- She has never been. I have a toy-hauler rented and a private campsite reserved outside of Deadwood. I will be finishing a bike in the next couple of weeks that I plan to bring, and I will bring one of my dependable daily's to blast out of town and see some sights. I wish I wouldn't have booked everything for this year, but the money is spent, vacation time set and I needed a deadline to finish this Shovel project anyway. We are traveling alone, and not intending to meet with any other friends while out there. I had day passes for the Chip for a concert but I sold those off- Too many people (although I was hoping to show her one crazy night).

Anyone else still planning to attend? If so, what are your thoughts on the current situation? -Scott

To me, in the current situation, Sturgis will only be about separating you from your hard earned money. It seems like they are only going through with it because their economy for the year basically depends on it.

No force on earth could get me there this year given the state of things it's a horrible idea but that's just my opinion

This may sound harsh but I think it is going to be a super spreader event. Sturgis used to be a cool biker get together, but that was 35 years ago. Now it is really commercial, in MY opinion.

I would be inclined to cut my losses on the campsite, load up the toy hauler and head out to somewhere remote for a week. But hey what do I know, lol.

I am planning on going. I've never had - and might never have again - the chance to make it, since I'm usually in peak season doing migrant work about now. 2020 has given me a strange blessing of a free summer to ride. So, I'll be there.

But I agree with what was said above. Much like Burning Man, I think Sturgis has completely detoured from the original point of its inception. It's no longer about crusty biker brotherhood, now it's OC Oldskool Chopperz and biker lawyers hawking shit with hot girls. The vibe is totally off. I wish I could have gone in the 70's, but unfortunately 2020 is what I have. The way I look at it, I may as well experience some form of history and at least see where it all began if nothing else.

I'll probably only be there a day. I'm not as scared shitless about the covid stuff as most people but I'm not exactly looking for any excuses to be in crowded areas with out-of-staters so I'll be cat burglaring it. I might sleep out by Deadwood or Spearfish or somewhere, but it's likely I might just move on completely after snapping a few pictures, listening to some old farts talk about why REO Speedwagon is the best band and getting my cheesy black t-shirt. I live in the greater area so it's only a day/2 day trip for me.
I realize my testimony ain't exactly helpful to you given your original question but that's what I got, haha

I suppose I don't really care about it, but since I'm close and I have the opportunity I want to at least go and see it, I guess as a sort of rite of passage or something. So that the next time some doofus at a gas station wants to talk to me about what kind of Harley my Kawasaki is and how I "need to" go to Sturgis, at least I can tell him what he wants to hear.

I'm going. Trying to meet up with a few YouTubers there. Just need to have an adventure. Just retired and have nothing to my name, so time to have some good times.

Not sure if I'll be at any of the events. Might check things out for a minute. But as I said, I have no money so won't be doing much.

Had a pretty good time in Sturgis. Met some pretty cool people. Not sure if I'll go again, but it was interesting.

Now I'm heading to Little Sturgis, then Blueridge Stake Out, then Biketoberfest, then Key West I guess.

Never been to Sturgis. Really have no desire to go. I'm in Fl so I hit BikeWeek in Daytona & Leesburg and BiketoberFest every other year or so. As stated, the commercialism has just become too much and the events aren't as great as they used to be. Best biker events I ever attended were in Europe back in 2004-2007. Went to the European Super Rally in Paliano, Italy and European Bike Week in Faaker See, Austria in 2005. During the summer there was always a bike event going on some where. Attended a lot of local events in Belgium. Really miss it...........Click image for larger version.

Well, we survived. Wife and I have been married 18 years and this was one of the best vacations we have taken together. No kids, no work, no phones. Great camping with some cool "neighbors", great rides every day and cold beer and good food by a camp fire every night. No issues with the scooters that slowed us down, and no Covid to boot.

Once again, I'm glad i threw the dice....
