Lost thread ... Replacement .. Sputhe 5 ina 4 Trans

Need guidance on the build ..

Art kick cover came in and got it prepped for the adapter ..
Making an order up for getting the Baker kick arm loaded on ..

What I need to know is what to do about the kick spring ..
Can run a chrome spring open or install a chrome cover hiding it ... ??

Also ... Wondering if the kick-ass kick pedal should be polished .. ??

    On the polish note ..

The 5 ina 4 trans is all done with the roughing in and ready for the shine to be laid down ..

On the Cal-Products 4-speed, got a world of welding and flowing in to do once the Baker N-1 Lid gets here ..
That's going to take a bit of time to accomplish ...

The Baker parts order has all the parts for both transmissions on it ..
(Going to be like Christmas Morning when that box shows up !!)

Owner said to polish the kick pedal, he didn't want the cover on the spring ...

Just a chrome spring will be installed ..

          Will make it so ...

              Ok ... Alright ...

That top cover sure will be looking good with the bolts countersunk ...

Owner wants the same done on the adapter ...

There are 8 bolts holes in this kick adapter that the owner wants me to countersink like I did on the top cover .. Problem is not all can be bored from the front side of the adapter cause of the other flange being in the way ..

              Tis tooling that I don't have ...

This one I'm going to farm out to a pro shop or buy the freaken backside counterbore tools, yup two difference sizes are needed 1/4" and 5/16" ....

Can't say I've seen many 5-speed mainshafts with kicker gears ....

Most likely won't be seeing any more cause this is the last one that Sputhe had in stock and don't have plans to make any more ...

Been awhile since this thread has seen a post ....

Sooooooo .... Time is nearing final assembly ...

Got a few chores (And parts yet to get) to do on it that's keeping from doing so ... Due to "Back Orders" has slow down this job a wee bit ...

Polishing turned out looking grand ...

Now to start in on getting it together ...

With everything polished but for the Sputhe shifter lever it's kinda not following the game plan we got going on ...

                      Question for the owner ....

The Sputhe Shift Lever was made for a shaft that had a cut ...
This being one of the first 5-speeds, it didn't have that cut shaft ..

I positioned it where I think it should be ... If you agree I'll cut a slot into the shaft so the pinch bolt will travel to the threads ...

                      Your call Boss ...

Since the owner will be running mid shift controls, he wants the shift lever more to the vertical position on the tranny ....

That as far as it can go without cutting on the centering adjustment bolt .... Could trim some meat off the bolt in order to have the Sputhe shifter arm position straight up ...

No biggie to cut down the bolt if the owner sees the need ...

May be seeing a problem sticking it's ugly head up ... ??

Got a Jims cover kicker shaft on the way, that will tell the story if there will be a problem with the swing of the arm ...

If indeed there is contact with the arm to cover, we got a cure ...

Jims Extended Kick Starter Shaft ...
Soon to find out if the need is there or not ...

                          Whoa ....

The more I eyeball the ART Hyd. kick cover the more I think the Baker Hyd. cover may have been a better choice ...

With the Baker in play, looks like about 3 inches would be gone ...

And the swing of the Baker straight kick arm wouldn't have a problem working with the standard cover kick shaft ...

                              Ok .. Alright ...

I have come to the conclusion that "This dog ain't going to Hunt" .. !!

                              Here's why ...

Assembled the gears and shafts (Sputhe's special kicker mainshaft) into the Revtech door adapter ... All went well there ..

On the mainshaft, Allan did away with the threaded nut and used a C-clip to keep the shaft from walking in the door bearing ..
And it be an oddball size, took some doing but I located one that still hasn't made it to me ..
No biggie since this is just a mockup to see how well mis-matching parts from difference manufactures will fit together ...

And that proved to be not very well ..
The mainshaft is not long enough to allow the kicker clutch gears to work ...

The cure is two ways to get there ..
One is too find the rest of the parts for the Revtech kicker and go back to the og Oem mainshaft, they used a screw on extension to the end of the Oem shaft for the starter clutch gears ...

The other is to find the Sputhe door that the mainshaft was designed to be used with ...

Both of these paths might be very hard to travel down since these parts went obsolete some 30+ years ago ...

So close to being DONE, yet so far ..
