Swap Meet Shovel Motor Build ...

Good as any place to start at ...

    Belly numbers are matching ..
That's always nice to see ...

Let's see if I can come up with a set of flywheels ...

A nice set of 80" wheels would be cool ... Cases be 1976, came from the Mo-Co as a 74" motor, but if I have a good set of the 80" wheels they will be used in this motor ...

          Cool Beans ....

Going to use "Harry's Heavy-Duty Rods" (Same as S&S back in the day rods) in these flywheels ...

Dang, it's almost like a night on the town ...

Yes you did! I was going to respond to your original post that it would be a better starting place with 4.75" wheels... Glad I scrolled down first!

I have a set of 4.5" S&S if you would rather use that I'd trade...

Done got a game plan started ...

Went to digging in the shop and found some NOS S&S Manley Big Bore pistons for 4-3/4" stroke ...
And more Dixie parts that are needed for the build ..

Pinion shaft is for the side oiler models (58-72) but I can convert it to a end oiler easy enough ..
Sprocket shaft is on the money ...

Had these jugs sitting on a shelf for a coons age ... They will be in the brew ...

Got a few sets of heads to pick from ...
Going for the Sleeper Shovel look, although those jugs will give it away ..
I'll dig out the heads a bit later ...

That's going to be a stout motor.

Did a bit more digging and netted these ...

Not all that sure what cam will be used ..
Most likely will buy a new one, J4 or a L5 Leineweber just may be the pick .. ??
Wanting to run up on a set of 48-52 lifters ...
Solids ain't my first choice, but in this Hot-Rod motor they will do well ...

Thank you, no. Don't really want to go backwards at this point. I bought a long block in need of total rebuild for a good price about 20 years ago... on the premise that it was a 98" motor with S&S internals. Fast forward 18 years when I finally got ready to do something with it, pulled the heads, lo and behold it was 4.5" stroke. I don't think I was intentionally lied to, the guy just didn't really know what he had. So, I already have a 96" in my FXS... if I build another it will either be a 98" or 103".
