                Not the cam ...

Only the C.B. and Gen Idle gears have the holes ...

First off the bat is this chore to do ....

sorry i just glanced at the pic and it looked like cam lobes. Looked again and it is indeed the CB gear. Was wondering about the pinionshaft groove at the oil hole. Was wondering why partial and not all the way around? Just wondering.

I was going to go with a grooved pinion bearing, like used to be advertised in the old biker mags. S&S advised to only make the groove 1/2 way around. Maybe taking oil from the heads? Probably one reason not to go clear around the pinion shaft, it could weaken it on the end. Jesse will probably have the definitive answer.
But mine was for a knuckle motor.,

Could do 360* oiling by making a cam cover pinion bushing with cutting a groove down the side of it to allow for end oiling ..
Would need to meter it down on the flow ...

I choose to do the ramps on the shaft cause of using the cast iron pump, even though I did speed up the pump to 73 specs ...
If a alum. pump was in play most likely I'd do the 360* ...

Is that one of those, I think they call a ramp, breather gear?

Yes, air ramp ... "Don Hotop" started making those some years ago ..
Helps out at higher rpm's ...

The downside of this is, No-Mo arresting screen to stop debris from a blow-up getting into the cam chest ...

But .... Hoping that won't happen with this Hot-Rod motor ...

(If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room) .. Lol

Say, I'm in need of some frog hair, you holding .. ??

I just fell into a 48EL (or so sayeth the serial) that was supposedly overhauled long ago but was obviously Bubba'ed (see pic) and apart it must come for case mount ear repairs and whatever eldritch horrors lurk inside.

Given that there's no reason not to gut rehab it (bellies are mismatched, I've not lifted the heads yet to see actual bore and stroke and builder is deceased), How do ya feel about a low-ish compression 84" with a moderate drop-in cam? If not that, what's a good way to get about 80 cubes? Objective is a comfy torquey cruiser to be ridden gently but not suck on the highway. I've got newer bikes to thrash so this will be ridden gently.
